Iran Launches Short-Range Missiles Sunday, Long-Range Monday, in Response to Israeli-Prompted Threats

Editor's Note:

Leaders of the US, British, and French governments have come together in New York to warn Iran not to continue in its nuclear program in a way that may lead to developing nuclear weapons. However, they have never mentioned the Israeli arsenal of more than 200 nuclear weapons!

The Zionist corporate media followed their lead, without any attempt to question this blindness when it comes to the Israeli nuclear weapons. To the contrary, they have been beating the drums for an attack on Iran, just like they did in the case of the US-UK invasion of Iraq.

Actually, the Israeli nuclear weapons have caused this nuclear arms race in the Middle East. US-EU leaders would do better if they demand the Israeli occupation government to dismantle its arsenal of nuclear weapons.

Until they do, they actually play the role of protectors of the Israeli racist regime of aggression and occupation, which has been the root cause of disorder and instability in the Middle East and around the world.

    TEHRAN, Sept. 27, 2009, (Xinhua) --

Iran successfully launched short-range missiles and a multi-missile launching system in a war game carried out by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday, local English-language Press TV reported.

In a military drill dubbed The Great Prophet IV in a bid to bolster its defense capabilities by IRGC, Iran has tested a multi-missile launching system which launched a number of missiles including the home-made Fat'h and Tondar missiles, Press TV said.

The Great Prophet IV maneuver, which is a sequel to The Great Prophet III carried out last year by the IRGC naval and ground forces in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz region started on Sunday and is expected to continue for several days, Press TV added.

IRGC Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Saturday that the war game would be carried out to improve the Islamic Republic armed forces' defense capabilities.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) air force commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Sunday that Iran will test fire its home-made long-range Shahab 3 missile on Monday, local English-language Press TV reported.

"The long-range Shahab missile will be tested tomorrow," Salami was quoted as saying.

According to defense sources, Shahab 3 could travel about 2,000km and hit Israel.

The IRGC started a war game dubbed The Great Prophet IV on Sunday.

"The main objective of today's demonstration is to evaluate the technical developments that Iran has achieved just recently in its surface-to-surface missiles," Salami said Sunday.

According to Press TV, Iran has successfully tested a multi-missile launching system in the drill.

"The system which is capable of launching several home-made rockets simultaneously has successfully been tested for the first time," Salami told Press TV.

A number of missiles including home-made Fat'h 110, a short-range ground-to-ground missile and Tondar 69, a short-range naval missile, were also launched consecutively at mock targets across the country.

IRGC Launches Missile War Games

September 27, 2009

TEHRAN (FNA)-

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday launched massive missile exercises by firing ground-to-ground missiles.

The missile wargames, codenamed "Payambar-e Azam 4 (The Great Prophet IV)", started at 4am (local time) and are part of the Islamic Republic of Iran's defensive measures.

The missile wargames are planned in different phases and in different parts of the country.

IRGC Air Force has already fired Tondar and Fateh 110 type missiles which are short-range ground-to-ground missiles.

IRGC is also slated to fire Shahab class mid-range missiles tonight in the second phase of the drills and will fire optimized long-range missiles tomorrow morning.

The liquid-fuel Shahab class missiles include a wide range of missiles, including the well-known Shahab 3 which has a range of up to 1,250 miles (2000 kilometers) and is capable of carrying a 1,000-760 kilogram warhead.

Iran successfully tested second generation of Sejjil missiles and brought it into mass production earlier this year. Sejjil missiles are considered as the third generation of Iran-made long-range missiles.

The solid-fuel, two-stage Sejjil missile with two engines, is capable of reaching a very high altitude and therefore has a longer range than that of the Shahab 3 model.

Commander: Missile Drills Aimed at Exercise of Iran's Deterrent Power

TEHRAN (FNA)-

A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday underlined that the forces' current missile drills are aimed at exercising defensive and deterrent goals.

"Payambar-e Azam 4 (The Great Prophet IV) missile wargames conducted by the IRGC are in line with exercising the Iranian Armed Forces' defensive and deterrent goals," Commander of IRGC Air Force General Hossein Salami said.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps on Sunday launched massive missile exercises by firing ground-to-ground missiles as part of the Islamic Republic's measures to boost defensive power.

Reminding that the drill will be staged in several phases and in different parts of the country, Salami noted, "During the multiple-phased exercises, we will strike specified virtual targets with several missiles simultaneously and will exercise continuous, but non-simultaneous, launch of missiles in a bid to exercise and manage our long-term deterrent defense capability."

Commenting upon the goals of the drills, the commander said the missile wargames aims to display the Iranian nation's resolve to defend their revolution's values and causes.

He added that the drills are also aimed at an assessment of the technical developments and tactical capabilities of the newly produced ground-to-ground missiles.

Spokesman Asks West to Avoid Meddling in IAEA's Affairs

TEHRAN (FNA)-

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hassan Qashqavi on Sunday voiced protest at the false remarks recently uttered by a number of western leaders on the country's peaceful nuclear program, and called on the West to stop interference in the tasks and responsibilities of the UN nuclear watchdog agency.

"The western governments had better have fulfilled their undertakings in connection with the IAEA and take real steps towards resolving global concerns through real dismantlement of their nuclear stockpile, instead of adopting superficial and controversial approaches," the spokesman underlined.

"Iran's activities in using nuclear technology are completely transparent and are carried out within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," Qashqavi reiterated.

Regarding the newly announced nuclear enrichment plant in Iran, Qashqavi noted, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has constructed the nuclear fuel enrichment plant within the framework of its inalienable right to peacefully use the nuclear energy and in line with its efforts to diversify its energy resources to supply its growing needs."

Qashqavi's remarks followed harsh stances and remarks by western leaders following revelations that Iran would soon start enriching uranium at a second facility inside the country.

Iranian officials have announced that the country's second nuclear enrichment facility, believed to be located near the central city of Qom, will be operational in about 2 years.

Speaking on Friday, US President Barack Obama called the nascent Iranian nuclear facility "a direct challenge to the basic foundation of the nonproliferation regime".

French President Nicolas Sarkozy seconded President Obama's stance and accused Tehran of taking the world down a "dangerous" path.

Meanwhile British Prime Minister Gordon Brown reacted by saying that Iran's "serial deception of many years" in its nuclear work demanded a tougher action by the international community.

Commander Highlights Nations' Preparedness against Potential Threats

TEHRAN (FNA)-

A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said that preparedness of the Iranian nation has thwarted potential military threats against the country.

"When our nation is 100 percent prepared for defense, nobody is able to launch a war against us," former IRGC Ground Force Commander General Mohammad Ja'far Assadi said Saturday night.

Assadi, who is now a top commander of Khatam ul-Anbia base, warned that enemies are waiting to see just a little crack in the Iranian nation's spirit of sacrifice and resolve.

He underlined that in the last 20 years after the end of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s, the enemies planned and almost staged 6 full-fledged war against Iran but the preparedness of the Iranian Armed forces as well as the Supreme Leader's measures foiled an exercise of these enemy plots.
