 Nablus - Ma'an -

A young man died while speeding away from Israeli occupation forces in the northern West Bank on Thursday, according to Palestinian medics and Israel's military.

The victim was identified as 28-year-old Mohammad Abdul Rahman Qawariq from the village of A'warta, south of Nablus.

An eyewitness told Ma'an that Israeli occupation forces were pursuing Qawariq's car, which had driven past a temporary military checkpoint along the road between Beeta and A'qraba, two villages south of Nablus.

"He was surprised by a temporary checkpoint in front of him... He was unable to stop [in time] and Israeli forces chased him," the witness added. "A number of Israeli soldiers began shooting at the car, after which he lost control. It flipped and killed him instantly."

Medical sources confirmed that Qawariq died after his car overturned, but added that the exact cause of death was unclear as his body was being held by Israeli forces when medics arrived, rather than inside the car.

Approached by Ma'an, an Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed that Qawariq died after his car crashed while speeding away from military forces, but insisted that at no time were shots fired in the direction of his car.

She said the victim was headed toward a military vehicle the wrong way on a one-way road, and that he turned around and sped off at high speed when signaled by Israeli forces. Ultimately, according to the spokeswoman, the army arrived to find an injured man outside of his wrecked vehicle.

She said soldiers performed initial medical treatment and called in an army helicopter, but were unable to revive the man, who was pronounced dead shortly thereafter by an Israeli military doctor.

Qawariq's body was later transferred by Red Crescent medics to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, according to Palestinian medical sources.

GAZA, (PIC)--

Israeli occupation forces warplanes blasted tunnels along the Palestinian borders with Egypt in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and a metal workshop in Jabalia to the north of the Strip at dawn Thursday, local sources reported.
They told the PIC reporter that Israeli F-16s bombed the so-called tunnels area on the Rafah-Sinai borders but no report on casualties was available.

Another Israeli raid targeted a metal workshop in Jabalia, north of Gaza, completely destroying the facility, no human casualties were reported.

The Israeli occupation forces command claimed that the aerial raids targeted a building used for manufacturing weapons near Gaza city and tunnels used to smuggle combat gear south of the Strip.
It added that the raids were in retaliation to the firing of a projectile from Gaza on Wednesday night that exploded in an open field in the western Negev and did not cause any human or material losses.
