[ 18/10/2009 - 09:25 AM ]

ANKARA, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation government (IOG) has refused to allow entry of a shipment of mobile homes donated by the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) to the Gaza Strip despite giving initial approval, a British paper reported on Saturday.

The Independent said that the TRC had obtained the IOA approval last February for the entry of prefabricated homes that would accommodate 488 people from a total of 20,000 people who lost their homes in the IOG war on Gaza.

The paper said that most of those displaced people live in temporary, crammed houses or with their relatives while others find shelter in tents pitched amidst their destroyed homes.

The Israeli war on Gaza that started in late December 2008 and ended three weeks later killed 1,383 Palestinians and wounded more than 5,000 others while 22,000 homes were either completely or partially destroyed in the offensive.

Meanwhile, Turkish premier Recep Erdogan renewed his criticism of Israel and his backing of the oppressed Palestinian people.

Erdogan in a speech in central Turkey on Saturday said that his country does not oppose any country in the world but only opposes oppression in apparent reference to the Israeli siege on Gaza.
