15 Iraqis Killed, 37 Injured in War Attacks October 17-18, 2009 2 killed, 13 wounded in Baghdad bomb attacks BAGHDAD, Oct. 18, 2009, (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 13 others injured in two bomb attacks in and near Baghdad on Sunday, a police source said. A government employee was killed and three of his colleagues were injured when a bomb attached to their vehicle detonated near the Baghdad University intersection in Karradah neighborhood in central the capital, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. In a separate incident, an explosive charge went off inside a popular restaurant in the town of Musayyeb, some 50 km south of Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding 10 others, the source said. Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq as part of recent deterioration in security which foiled the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country after more than three months of U.S. troops' pullout of Iraqi cities and towns. Editor: Deng Shasha Blast kills 1, wounds 9 north of Hilla October 18, 2009 - 12:18:52 BABEL / Aswat al-Iraq: One civilian man was killed and nine others wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off inside an internal transport garage north of al-Hilla city on Sunday, a local police source in Babel said. “A home-made IED ripped through a garage in the area of al-Qarya al-Aasriya, al-Iskandariya district, (50 km) north of Hilla, leaving one civilian man killed and nine others wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The explosion caused severe damage to a number of civilian vehicles,” the source added. Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad. AmR (P) Policeman survives IED blast near his vehicle October 18, 2009 - 11:24:39 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: An improvised explosive device attached to a policeman’s vehicle went off in northern Mosul city on Sunday but the policeman survived unscathed, a security source in Ninewa said. “A sticky IED attached to a policeman’s vehicle went off in al-Sokkar neighborhood, northern Mosul, but the policeman, who was outside his vehicle escaped the attempt as he was outside his vehicle when the car was blown away,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The policeman was on a leave of absence when the attack occurred, he added. “The explosion caused severe damage to his vehicle,” the source said. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) Blast in Ninewa wounds cement company chief October 18, 2009 - 08:38:41 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: The director of the Northern Cement Company was wounded when a car bomb ripped through northern Mosul city on Sunday, a local police source in Ninewa said. “A car bomb went off at the backdoor of an amusement park in northern Mosul, targeting the motorcade of the Northern Cement Company, leaving him and two escorts seriously wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. AmR (P) 2 killed, 2 wounded in two separate attacks in Mosul October 17, 2009 - 02:45:56 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: One policeman and one civilian were killed, while two other civilians were wounded in two separate incidents in Mosul city, a source from Ninewa province’s police said Saturday. “The first blast targeted a police patrol in western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He said that the attack left one policeman killed and two civilians injured. “One civilian was killed by gunmen’s fire in a separate attack in western Mosul,” the source said. He said that the victim was repairing his car before his house when he came under the armed men’s fire. The source did not mention further details. MH (P)/SR Two civilians killed in bombing in Baghdad October 17, 2009 - 02:17:15 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Two civilians were wounded when a sticky bomb went off on Saturday in western Baghdad, said a source from the Iraqi police. “The bomb was attached by unknown individiuals to a car that belongs to an Iraqi army soldier,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He said that the blast took place in al-Mansoor neighborhood, western Baghdad, and that the civilian, who was driving the car, in addition to another who was passing by, were wounded in the explosion. “The car was also damaged as well,” the source said. He said that security forces cordoned off the area, and admitted the two injuries to a nearby hospital. MH (P)/SR Gunmen blow up house of officer in Anbar October 17, 2009 - 12:19:19 ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: Unidentified gunmen on Saturday blew up the house of a police officer in Anbar province, according to a police source. “Unknown gunmen planted explosive devices and an amount of TNT explosives around the house of a cop in al-Aameriya district, southern Falluja,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The blast destroyed the house and wounded Captain Anwar al-Issawi,” the source indicated. “A security cordon has been thrown around the site and all roads leading to the scene of the blast have been blocked,” the source added. Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Anbar, he capital of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad. SS (P) Two gunmen killed while planting roadside bomb in Kirkuk October 17, 2009 - 11:50:36 KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: Two gunmen where killed on Saturday while attempting to plant a roadside bomb southwest of Kirkuk city, and two civilians were wounded in the resulting blast, said a security source from Kirkuk. “The two armed men are wanted by the Iraqi security forces,” Brigadier Sarhad Qadir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He said that they were planting a bomb in central Haweeja suburb, 65 km southwest of Kirkuk. “Dead bodies and injuries were admitted to the suburb’s hospitals,” He said. Brigadier Qadir said that investigations are underway in this regard. The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad. SS (P) Car bomb destroys bridge in Ramadi October 17, 2009 - 07:48:56 ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: A booby-trapped car on Saturday exploded on a bridge in southern Ramadi city, destroying part of it, a local police source said. “Unknown gunmen left a car bomb on a bridge across the Euphrates River in Ramadi’s southern area of al-Jazeera,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The blast did not cause casualties, the source pointed out. U.S. and Iraqi forces sealed off the whole area, the source added. Yesterday (Oct. 16), unknown gunmen blew up a bridge that links Zawba'a village and al-Aameriya district in southeastern Falluja City.
