Iranians Observe 30th Anniversary of US Embassy Takeover, Merkel's Remarks Under Zionist Influence

Iranians hold anti-U.S. rallies to mark 30th anniversary of embassy takeover

  TEHRAN, Nov. 4, 2009 (Xinhua) --

Tens of thousands of Iranians held demonstrations on Wednesday across the country to mark the 30th anniversary of the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran by Iranian students.

In Tehran, the demonstrators gathered outside the former U.S. embassy in central Tehran, carrying placards expressing their hatred of the "arrogant powers" and shouting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans.

Iran's former Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel told the rally that the U.S. has not abandoned its "aggressive" policy towards Iran, but Iran will never be intimidated into giving up its legitimate nuclear rights.

He said the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran by Iranian students in 1979 was "the right thing to do" because Washington used the embassy for espionage activities.

Also on Wednesday, some supporters of Iran's opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi clashed with Iranian police in Tehran when they attempted to stage an anti-government protest, witnesses said.

The U.S. embassy was stormed by Iranian students on Nov. 4, 1979 and its personnel were held hostage for 444 days. The U.S. broke off diplomatic relations with Iran in 1980 and their ties have remained severed ever since.

Since the 1979 takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iranians have been celebrating the occasion every year by holding rallies on the anniversary and marking it as the "National Day against the Global Arrogance."

Iran: Merkel's Remarks Come under Zionist Influence

Nov. 5, 2009

TEHRAN (FNA)-

Iran announced on Thursday that German Chancellor's remarks on Iran's nuclear issue came under influence of Zionist lobbies and against Germany's national interests.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast reiterated that Angela Merkel's "baseless accusations" at the US Congress came as Iran is a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the IAEA has reiterated several times that Iran's nuclear issue is peaceful.

Merkel has granted the Zionist regime 'Dolphin' submarines capable of carrying nuclear warheads while she accuses Iran with baseless remarks and no evidence, he was quoted by the Iranian students news agency as saying.

"Zero tolerance needs to be shown when there is a risk of weapons of mass destruction falling, for example, into the hands of Iran and threatening our security," Merkel said Tuesday and added, "Iran needs to be aware of this, Iran knows our offer but Iran also knows where we draw a line."
