At least one, possibly two dead as Israeli occupation forces fire on Gaza youth

Published today (updated) 13/11/2009 13:59

Gaza – Ma’an –

One Palestinian is dead and two brothers injured along with one other now in Israeli custody, and a fifth admitted to an Israeli hospital following an apparent clash in the central Gaza Strip near Johr Al-Deek south of Gaza City on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said the group was on a hunting trip near the border east of the Al-Buraij Refugee Camp. Palestinian medics said Israeli fire was directed at the youth. An Israeli military spokesperson said one was killed in Gaza during the clash, and could not comment on the condition of the youth admitted to hospital.

Three others are being questioned by Israeli occupation forces, the military spokesperson said.

Israel Radio said one youth died en route to Israel's Barzilai Hospital, while a hospital spokesperson identified the youth being treated there as Ahmed, but would not give information as to his condition, saying he was "under the care" of hospital staff.

The youth slain in Gaza was identified as 22-year-old Mustafa Muhammed Wadi who lives in the Al-Buraijj camp. Those in custody include Ahmed Khader Sa’adoon, 16, and his brother Muhammed, 15, who are reportedly injured.

Sources in the Gaza City branch of the Emergency and Medical Services department said there would be coordination to return the youth to the Strip.

Israeli media sources said the Israeli occupation forces entered the Palestinian area of Johr Al-Deek area for a short time where they located a group of men near the Nahl Oz crossing. The sources said the men were planting an explosive device.
