Assad: The peace process only positive side is its exposure of Israel's reality as the obstacle of peace [ 24/05/2009 - 11:30 AM ] DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad said on Saturday that the failure of political action to restore the Palestinian lands occupied by Israel gives the resistance the right to assume its duty in liberating them, pointing that the only positive aspect of the peace process is that it laid bare Israel before the whole world. President Assad added, during the opening session of the conference of foreign ministers of Islamic states held in Damascus, that there was one positive point scored by the peace process that it exposed the reality of Israel to the entire world, noting that the peace process failure starkly unveiled that Israel was the greatest obstacle to achieving that peace. “Can a nation founded on illegal occupation, the killing of indigenous Palestinian residents and committing of massacres in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza work for peace? Can a nation be our peace partner while its governments have impeded publicly and secretly the possibility of reaching any agreement since the peace process started?” The Syrian president rhetorically questioned. “I do not think that any of us does not know about the apartheid wall in the West Bank, the slow death suffered by the Palestinians in Gaza as a result of the blockade, the destruction of fields, the systematic process of Judaizing Jerusalem and the deportation of its inhabitants,” he underlined.
