US Soldier Killed, 4 Injured, 13 Iraqis Killed, 17 Injured, May 15-16, 2009 Yaqen.net reported the following news: - 2 policemen were were killed, 3 were injured in an attack, southeast of Baghdad. - One person was killed, another was injured by a landmine explosion south of Basra. - A US patrol was attacked by a roadside bomb south of Najaf. - 2 policemen were killed, seven were injured by a roadside bomb west of Baghdad. - US patrol was attacked in Al-Falloujah with a hand grenade. - 4 policemen were killed in a bomb attack in Samarra. 2 killed, 5 wounded in 2nd Baghdad blast May 16, 2009 - 11:39:04 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Two civilians on Saturday were killed and five others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Baghdad, the second blast to hit the Iraqi capital today. “Today, a roadside explosive device planted by unknown men in al-Ghadeer neighborhood, southeastern Baghdad, detonated, killing two civilians and injuring five others,” a police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, two persons were killed and seven others were wounded when a roadside IED went off in Abu Ghraib area (20 km west of Baghdad city). Security forces sealed off the area of the blast and rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment, the source added. SS (P) Mortar kills, wounds 3 in Baghdad May 16, 2009 - 11:10:10 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Three persons on Saturday were killed or wounded when a mortar shell landed on Baghdad’s city of Sadr, according to an Iraqi police source. “Today, a mortar shell fell on a house near a U.S. military base in Sadr city, eastern Baghdad, killing one individual and wounding two others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source did not provide further details. SS (P) 9 killed, wounded by IED near Baghdad May 16, 2009 - 10:42:45 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Nine persons on Saturday were killed or wounded when an explosive device detonated near Baghdad, according to an Iraqi police source. “A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown men went off in Abu Ghraib area (20 km west of Baghdad city), killing two persons and wounding seven others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Security forces sealed off the area of the blast and the wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, the source added. SS (P) U.S. forces wound farmer in Hilla May 16, 2009 - 10:17:09 BABEL / Aswat al-Iraq: U.S. forces on Saturday wounded a farmer northeast of Hilla city, according to a source from Babel province’s police. “U.S. forces opened fire on a farmer in the Neel area, 5 km northeast of Hilla,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He pointed out that the injured farmer was admitted to the Hilla surgical hospital. Aswat al-Iraq News agency has made every effort to reach the U.S. side for comment, but to no avail. MH (P) / SS Cop killed, gunman wounded in Mosul May 15, 2009 - 11:58:44 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: A policeman was killed Friday in a clash with a gunman at a police checkpoint in western Mosul, according to a security source. “A policeman was killed by a gunman in Dawrat al-Yarmouk region in western Mosul on Friday (May 15),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The gunman was seriously injured and was arrested by police forces during a hunt down operation,” he added. “The gunman was carried to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he also said. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SH (P) U.S. soldier killed, 4 injured in Dalouiya May 15, 2009 - 07:21:53 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: One U.S. soldier was killed and four others were wounded while conducting combat operations in Dalouiya, northwest of Baghdad, the U.S. army said. “A Coalition forces Soldier was killed and four injured Wednesday morning (May 13) while conducting combat operations in Dalouiya, approximately 80 km northwest of Baghdad, when their unit came in contact with enemy forces,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The unit was conducting operations to rid Iraq of a weapons facilitator and suicide vest cell known to be operating in the area,” it added. The death brings to 4,295 the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
