BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two persons on Sunday were killed and six others were wounded in a blast that occurred in northern Baghdad, according to a police source.

“A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a car on Omar Bin Abdulaziz St. in Baghdad’s Adhamiya area, killing two persons and wounding six others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Among the dead was the driver of the car, who works for the Interior Ministry,” the source indicated.

4 cops wounded by IED in Anbar

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four police personnel on Sunday were injured in an explosive charge blast that occurred in Anbar province, according to a police source.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near a police patrol vehicle near Anbar University, wounding four police personnel and causing damage to their vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The wounded were rushed to the Ramadi General Hospital,” the source added.

Ramadi, the capital city of Anbar province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

IED wounds 4 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four persons on Sunday were wounded in a blast that ripped through the Iraqi capital, according to a police source.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) stuck to a parked car in al-Ghadeer area, southeastern Baghdad, went off today, wounding four passers-by,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source did not provide further details.

Car bomb wounds 15 civilians in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Fifteen civilians on Sunday were injured when a car bomb went off in southern Mosul city, according to a police source.

“A parked car bomb detonated in a popular market in al-Qayara district (60 km south of Mosul), wounding 15 civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The blast did not target military personnel,” the source noted, adding that the injuries were either mild or moderate.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

State employee gunned down in Mosul

A government employee on Sunday was shot down in front of his department in western Mosul city, according to a police source.

“On Sunday, unknown gunmen opened fire on a government employee from Ninewa’s health department, killing him on the spot,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The victim was gunned down while he was leaving the building,” the source explained. “The body was taken to the morgue,” the source noted, providing no further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

8 policemen wounded in Kirkuk blast

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Eight security personnel from the Kirkuk Districts’ Police Department were wounded on Sunday when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near their patrol in the southern part of the city, the KDPD chief said.

“The policemen were injured while they were on duty near al-Bahrain souks (markets) in southern Kirkuk,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said two of the wounded are in critical condition.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

At least 7 killed in Basra blast

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Seven persons on Sunday were killed in an explosive charge blast that ripped through southern Basra, according to a local medic.

“This morning, Basra General Hospital received a corpse belonging to a policeman, in addition to six others belonging to sanitation workers,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Several others were wounded in the blast, which security forces said occurred on Sinaoya Himdan road (5 km south of Basra),” the source added.

Aswat al-Iraq has made every effort to contact police sources for comment on the incident, but to no avail.

The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Army officer, policeman wounded separately in Mosul

An improvised explosive device went off near an Iraqi army patrol, leaving an officer wounded, while a policeman was wounded when gunmen opened fire on him in eastern Mosul city, a police source said on Saturday.

“The IED targeted the Iraqi army patrol in Dora Sayedati al-Jameela, eastern Mosul, wounding an officer in the rank of major,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

In a separate incident, the source said that a policeman was wounded when gunmen opened fire on him on Saturday while he was on a leave of absence near his home in al-Nabi Younis area, eastern Mosul.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Bodies of 2 farmers found in Falluja

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces found the bodies of two farmers,both local residents of the district of Amiriyat al-Falluja on Saturday, a police source in al-Anbar province said.

“A police force stationed in Amiriyat al-Falluja district found the bodies of two farmers from the village of Ahsi left in a field,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The farmers, who had no problems or feuds with other people, were killed while irrigating their lands,” the source said, adding the bodies were removed to al-Falluja hospital and a probe was being launched into the incident.

“Amiriyat al-Falluja used to be the scene for fierce clashes between security authorities and operatives of the self-styled Islamic State of Iraq group. Thanks to the collaboration of tribes and local security forces, the area was purged (of gunmen),” the source noted.

Falluja, the largest city in the predominantly Sunni province of al-Anbar, lies 100 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
