Ehud Barak rejects a Supreme Court order to demolish illegal structures in Ofra illegal settlement

There is no left or right in Israeli politics, all are Zionists lusting for Palestinian lands and blood. The Zionist media in the US try hard to say that the labor party is leftist and the Likud party is rightist. In fact both are Zionist parties with no difference when it comes to the Palestinian people.

Barak rejects a Supreme Court order to demolish illegal structures in Ofra settlement

Sunday March 22, 2009 22:30 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

While the Israeli government is razing and preparing to raze dozens of homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Israeli Supreme Court revealed Sunday that the Israeli occupation government so-called defense minister, Ehud Barak (who is actually the war, aggression, and occupation minister), is blocking orders to demolish nine structures in Ofra illegal Jewish settlement, built on privately owned Palestinian lands.

Villagers of Ein Yabroud village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, filed an appeal to the Israeli High Court demanding Barak to stop the expanding of the illegal settlement and to demolish the existing illegal structures.

The Israeli prosecution said that Barak does not want to demolish nine illegal structures, and that he intends to reach a sort of compromise to solve the issue. Barak also demanded the court to reconsider its ruling.

In a written response sent to the court, Barak said that the nine structures in question are similar to several other unlicensed structures in the settlement, and added that “since the buildings are inside the settlement, and not on its edges, and since they are inhibited since several months, the court should reconsider its position”.

Having structures and homes inhibited did not stop Barak from razing dozens of Palestinian homes in the occupied East Jerusalem.

The Israeli Defense Ministry claimed that the settlers were not given the chance to appeal and also claimed the violations outside the settlements will be dealt with in time.

The issue here is regarding nine buildings illegally built by the settlers on 12 Dunams of land that used to be owned by the Palestinians before Israeli illegally annexed them.

The Palestinian villagers filed their appeal in June of last year, and the Israeli Supreme Court issued a temporary ruling barring the settlers from using the illegal structures, and instructing them to stop the construction activities in the settlement.

Yet, Barak ignored the ruling of Israel’s Supreme Court and supported the settlers’ stance.

Israeli peace groups Yish Din and B’Tselem, assigned attorney Shlomo Zachariah to represent the Palestinians in their case.

The lawyer said that Barak is abusing his post as he should protect the Palestinian property and should impose law and order, but instead he is “granting Israeli outlaws a free hand in the West Bank”.
