Iraqi soldier, gunman killed in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi army soldier was killed by unknown gunmen in eastern Mosul, while a gunman was killed by police forces in the southern part of the city, a security source said.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire on an Iraqi army checkpoint in al-Muharibeen neighborhoods in eastern Mosul, killing a solider, and fled to unknown place,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Policemen killed a gunman while attacking a police vehicle patrol using hand grenades in al-Mansour neighborhood in southern Mosul,” the same source said.

“The gunman threw a hand grenade at the patrol and while attempting to throw the second bomb the policemen shot and killed him,” he explained.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

University student killed in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A university student was killed on Tuesday by unknown gunmen in western Mosul, while an Iraqi soldier was found dead in west of the city, a police source said.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a student of the management and economy in al-Mosul al-Jadieda region in western Mosul, killing him instantly,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A body of an Iraqi army soldier was found in a village in al-Qayara district in south of Mosul,” he added.

“the body bore signs of gunshot wounds to the head and the chest,” he also said.

He gave no more details.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

Bodies found belong to Sahwa fighters

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

The bodies of the two young men found this morning in eastern Dalouiya district belong to Sahwa fighters, a police source from Salah al-Din province said on Tuesday.

“The two youths, whose bodies were found in different areas in eastern Dalouiya district, were members of Sahwa councils,” Maj. Ali Hussein Abdullah told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that security forces found a body of a 16-year-old youth with signs of gunshot wounds to the head and chest in al-Basateen area, eastern Dalouiya. The youth was with one of his fellow workers cutting down trees and making charcoal when they were kidnapped two days ago, the source noted, adding that the hunt was still on for the other young man.

Body of young man found in Dalouiya

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces on Tuesday morning found a body of a young man in eastern Dalouiya district, according to a police source.

“This morning, our patrols found a body of a 16-year-old youth with signs of gunshot wounds to the head and chest in al-Basateen area, eastern Dalouiya,” Lt. Col. Mohammad al-Juburi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The victim was with one of his fellow workers cutting down trees and making charcoal when they were kidnapped two days ago,” Juburi noted, adding that the hunt is still on for the other young man.

Dalouiya is administratively affiliated with Salah al-Din province. It lies 90 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
