Hassan Nasrallah Says Hizbullah Will Not Recognize Israel

Nasrullah: Hizbullah will not recognize Israel

Date: 14 / 03 / 2009  Time:  10:37
Bethlehem – Ma’an –

Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah vowed that his organization will never recognize Israel in a televised speech on Friday.

"To those who impose conditions on us, we say: We will never recognize Israel," Nasrullah said from a secret location in Lebanon.

The United States reiterated on Tuesday its demand that both the Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hizbullah must renounce violence and recognize Israel before they can expect even low-level US engagement.

"We reject the American conditions ... Today, tomorrow and after 1,000 years and even until the end of time, as long as Hezbollah exists, it will never recognize Israel," Nasrullah said.

A senior US official said on Thursday he was unhappy with a British decision to open provisional low-level contact with the Lebanese movement and suggested London only indirectly informed the new US administration ahead of time.

No involvement in Gaza

During his speech, Nasrullah denied reports in the Arab media that his organization was involved in the Gaza Strip.

"I stress in a definitive manner that Hizbullah has no faction or organization in Gaza," he said. "We have contacts and faith in everyone there, and just like we don’t like people dictating conditions to us, we don't intervene and dictate our conditions to anyone.

"Our status is that of a brother helping his brother, and we will help anything decided by the leadership of the Palestinian resistance," he concluded.

An organization based in Gaza calling itself Hizbullah in Palestine has claimed in recent months to have carried out military operations against Israel.
