5 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, US Soldier Killed in the Gulf of Eden, Attack on US Convoy Results in Casualties

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- A US soldier's corpse was found more than a month after he was missing in the Gulf of Eden.

- A US convoy was attacked in Jabab, near Rawa, resulting in the destruction of a Zell vehicle, causing US casualties.

Amsi.org reported that Professor Ahmed Shahab, of Mosul University, was assassinated today by a group of gunmen.

reported on the Daily Telegraph report that the former Zionist British foreign minister, Jack Straw, together with several political officials in government, participated in deceiving the British public and the British Parliament about the alleged Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, in order to justify the British participation in the 2003 US invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Green Zone mortared, no casualties

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Mortar shells on Saturday hit an area near the Green Zone (GZ) in Baghdad but did not leave any casualties or damage, according to a media advisor for the U.S. army in Iraq.

The advisor, who spoke to Aswat al-Iraq news agency, did not mention further details.

Gunmen kill policewoman in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Unknown gunmen killed a policewoman in central Mosul city, a security source from Ninewa province’s police said on Saturday.

“The incident occurred in al-Sarai market, downtown Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The gunmen opened fire on the policewoman, killing her on the spot in front of passers-by,” he said. The source pointed out that the policewoman was on vacation, shopping in the market. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mortar hits Doura refinery

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A mortar shell on Saturday morning hit al-Doura refinery in southern Baghdad without causing any casualties, according to an official spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Oil.

“The attack only caused holes in an oil tank,” Asim Jihad told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The situation was immediately brought under control,” he added. The Doura refinery is the oldest in Iraq and has been in operation since the 1950s.

2 Iraqi soldiers killed in Diala blast

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two Iraqi servicemen on Saturday were killed in an explosive charge blast that ripped through Diala province, according to a local security source.

“On Friday evening, an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Mandali district (55 km northeast of Ba'aqouba) near an Iraqi army patrol vehicle, killing two patrolmen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source did not provide further details.

Ba'aqouba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Corpse found in Babel river

BABEL / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces on Saturday found an unknown body floating in a river in northern Babel province, according to a security source.

“The corpse was floating in a river in al-Buhayrat area, Iskandriya district (50 km north of Hilla),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The body was partially decomposed, making it difficult to determine its identity,” the source added.

Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.
