9 Iraqis Killed, 3 Attacks on US Forces, March 11, 2009

- The US military base of Al-Ghazlani, in Mosul, was attacked with rockets.

- A roadside bomb exploded targeting a US military vehicle on the Beiji-Mosul road.

- A roadside bomb exploded targeting a US patrol in Al-Nour neighborhood, in Mosul.

Amsi.org reported that there were 9,071 cases of cancer in southern Iraq during the last four years.

- 3 Iraqi soldiers were killed, ten were injured in a car bomb explosion in Mosul.

Cop gunned down in eastern Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A policeman on Wednesday was killed by unknown gunmen in southern Jalawlaa district, according to a security source.

“This evening, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a policeman near Banira village, southern Jalawlaa district (155 km northeast of Baaquba), seriously wounding him,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The cop died while being rushed to the hospital,” the source noted, adding that the gunmen fled to an unknown destination before the arrival of police.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Mosul blast final toll reaches 16

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

The final toll from the car bomb blast that ripped through western Mosul city earlier today has reached four dead and 12 wounded, according to a security source.

“Four army personnel were killed and 12 others, including a solider, were wounded in the car bomb explosion that targeted an Iraqi army patrol vehicle in front of Faculty of Medicine in al-Shifaa neighborhood,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that three patrolmen were killed and 10 others, including two soldiers were wounded in the bombing.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Kirkuk blast leaves 11 casualties, including students

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

The car bomb explosion that occurred earlier today near a school in southwestern Kirkuk city has left one dead and 10 others wounded, including students, according to a police chief.

“The car was stolen and had a forged license plate,” the official told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that a car rigged with explosives detonated near Raba al-Adawiya School in Tiseen neighborhood, leaving an unknown number of civilian casualties. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

IED injures 3 soldiers in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded Wednesday in a bomb explosion in southwest of Baaquba, a police source said.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Wednesday (March 11) targeting an army vehicle patrol in Imam Mansour region in Baladruz district in southwest of Baaquba, injuring three soldiers,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he noted.

He gave no more details.

Ba'aquba, the capital of Diala, is 57km north of Baghdad.
