Israeli occupation forces kidnap 12 Palestinians near Hebron, re-erect checkpoint evacuated earlier in June, invade central Gaza

Palestinian fighters fire two shells, Israeli occupation forces invade central Gaza

Sunday June 21, 2009 23:49 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza fired two homemade shells toward an Israel military base Sunday morning, causing no injuries or damage. Following that incident, dozens of Israeli occupation forces armed with tanks, armored jeeps and heavy armaments invaded deep into Al-Buraij refugee camp, in the Central Gaza Strip.

According to local sources, the troops entered the crowded camp from the east side, then patrolled through the streets shooting randomly. No casualties were reported.

Al-Nasser Salahuddin Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, claimed responsibility for firing the shells at the military base.

Palestinian resistance groups have, since 2004, directed the majority of their attacks at Israeli military bases and troops. Most have stopped targeting Israeli civilians, although the Israeli military continuously targets Palestinian civilians with every aspect of the military occupation – from the checkpoints to the siege to the daily humiliations suffered by Palestinian civilians at the hands of the occupying Israeli troops, every aspect of the entire Palestinian population's lives are under Israeli military control.

The two shells fired by Palestinian resistance fighters Sunday morning are the first shells fired since May 6th, when the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, fired shells at Israeli troops invading the Gaza Strip.

Israeli violations and attacks in the ensuing period have been numerous, with at least 10 Palestinians killed and dozens more injured by Israeli military attacks since May 6th.

Hebron – Ma’an –

Israeli occupation forces kidnapped 12 Palestinians from the villages of Safa, north of Hebron in the southern West Bank, and Dair Al-Asal Al-Fouqa in the south after ransacking several homes.

A local Palestinian security source told Ma’an’s correspondent that an Israeli occupation forces unit stormed Safa and ransacked several homes before apprehending the men.

They were identified as: 28-year-old Abdul-Fattah Khulayil, 24-year-old Alaa Al-Teit, 20-year-old Eid Shuwaiki, 24-year-old Isam Aadi, 20-yerar-old Mahmoud Khulayil, 22-year-old Layth Addi, and 19-year-old Omar Di’mis.

The source added that Israeli forces stormed Dair Al-Asal Al-Fouqa and seized Samir Shawamra, Luay Shawamra, Iyad Dardoun, Uday Shawamra, and Badawi Shawamra.

Israeli occupation forces re-erect checkpoint evacuated earlier in June

Date: 22 / 06 / 2009  Time:  09:41
Ramallah – Ma’an –

Israeli occupation forces on Monday morning re-erected the Atara checkpoint north of Ramallah in the central West Bank, which was removed earlier this month.

Earlier in June, Israeli occupation forces evacuated the checkpoint, but did not remove the cement blocks. Regardless, Palestinians were free to cross the checkpoint in both directions.

Israel had insisted that the semi-evacuation was part of a wider effort of easing restrictions on the free movement of Palestinians in the West Bank.
