US Soldier, 4 Iraqis Killed in Attacks

Yaqen.net reported the following news today:

- A body of an unknown killed Iraqi was found east of Mosul.

- 2 Iraqis were killed, 12 were injured, all from one family, when they were attacked by gunmen inside their home in Sinjar, north of Mosul.

- A US spokesperson said that a US soldier was killed on Friday, without giving details. This has increased the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq since 2003 to 4,312. However, there were reports about a roadside bomb explosion targeting a joint US-Iraqi patrol, resulting in the killing of a US and an Iraqi soldiers in Samarra.

-  A US Hummer vehicle was damaged in a roadside attack in Al-Mashtal, south of Baghdad.

IED wounds 2 cops in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two personnel from the emergency police on Saturday were wounded when an explosive device went off in southern Kirkuk city, according to a local source.

“On Saturday morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near an emergency police patrol vehicle on al-Korneesh St. near al-Bahrain marketplace, southern Kirkuk, wounding two patrolmen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The explosion caused damage to the vehicle,” the source noted, providing no further details.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians, and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

U.S. soldier killed, 3 wounded while defusing IED

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

One U.S. serviceman on Saturday was killed and three others, including two Iraqis, were wounded while trying to defuse an explosive device in Samarra city, according to a local security official.

“The wounded personnel included one American and two Iraqis,” an assistant to Samarra operations’ commander, Brig. Abdulbaset Hassoun, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The blast occurred in al-Dubbat neighborhood, downtown Samarra. No comment was immediately available from the U.S. side. Samarra, Salah al-Din province, lies 120 km north of Baghdad.
