Group of industrialized nations demands immediate opening of Gaza crossings [ 09/07/2009 - 09:43 AM ] ROME, (PIC)-- A statement issued by leaders of the USA, Russia, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Canada and Japan at the end of the first day of the 35th summit of the group of eight industrialized nations held Wednesday in the Italian city of L'Aquila demanded an immediate opening of Gaza crossings. The statement called for opening Gaza crossings immediately to ensure a regular flow of people as well as humanitarian and commercial goods into the besieged Strip. Gaza has been under Israeli blockade for three years and Israel still imposes severe restrictions on the entry of food, medicines, fuel and other vital needs to it. Many patients who were denied travel for medical treatment abroad, died as a result of the siege.
