Special PLO Session Backs Abbas, Jordan Asks Al-Qaddoumi to Leave

Sunday July 19, 2009 07:53 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

The Israeli Radio reported that the Jordanian government had officially asked senior Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) official, Farouq Al-Qaddoumi, to leave Jordan after his last Sunday statements regarding a plot that ‘led to assassination of Yasser Arafat.

The Radio added Qaddoumi left Amman and headed to Syria after the Jordanian government ‘advised’ him to leave the country.

Last Sunday, Qaddoumi accused the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Fat'h leader, Mohammad Dahlan, of involvement in the plot that led to the assassination of former Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat.

He said that Abbas and Dahlan collaborated with the former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and several US security officials to assassinate Arafat while he was surrounded by the Israeli army in his Ramallah headquarters until his last days.

It is worth mentioning that the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) had decided on Saturday to call for a meeting for the Central Council to make a decision against Qaddoumi.

The Committee said that the statements of Qaddoumi harm the Palestinian cause and only serves the Israeli interests.

Special PLO session backs Abbas, condemns Al-Qaddoumi

Published today (updated) 19/07/2009 13:50 Abbas at a cabinet meeting, Ramallah [Ma'anImages] Bethlehem – Ma’an –

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)'s Executive Committee convened on Saturday in Ramallah, issuing a statement of confidence in President Mahmoud Abbas and condemning Farouq Al-Qaddoumi.

Al-Qaddoumi, a high-ranking PLO and Fat'h official, had accused Abbas of participating in what he said was an Israeli plot to assassinate the former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Arafat died of unknown causes in Paris in 2004.

The Executive Committee decided to call a session of the PLO Central Council to discuss the national dialogue and take unspecified "necessary measures" against Al-Qaddoumi, accusing him of attempting to discharge Israel from responsibility for killing Arafat and other "martyrs." Many Palestinians blame Israel for the leader's sudden and untimely death.

Furthermore, the committee issued a condemnation of what it called Israel's expansionism, demolition of homes, confiscation of lands, and the siege on the Gaza Strip, which entered its third year this month. The statement also mentioned Israel's "racist" decision to Hebraize names of Palestinian cities on its road signs, calling the move harmful to the prospects for peace between the two nations.
