4 US Soldiers Killed, Two US Helicopters Crash, 13 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, January 26, 2009


Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- A US Striker vehicle was destroyed in an attack in Dhera'a Dajla, north of Baghdad, resulting in US casualties.

- The US military base in Samarra was attacked with C8 rockets.

- A US Hummer was damaged in an attack in Abu Gharib.

- An Iraq man was killed and another was injured by Iraqi forces in Balad Ruz.

- 2 Iraqi soldiers were killed at Al-Ghazaliya checkpoint, Mosul, by a car bomb explosion.

- 5 Iraqis were killed, several others were injured in an explosion in front of the Islamic Party.

- An Iraqi army officer was killed in an attack by gunmen in Al-Shu'ala, Baghdad.

- 3 Iraqi soldiers were killed, a fourth was injured in an attack in Balad Ruz.

U.S. choppers crash, 4 soldiers killed

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four U.S. soldiers on Monday were killed when two helicopters crashed north of the Iraqi capital, the U.S. army said.

“The crash occurred in Salah al-Din province,” a U.S. army media advisor told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Investigations are currently underway to reveal the circumstance surrounding the accident, he added.

The deaths raise the number of U.S. fatalities in 2009 to 15, and bring the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,236.

Beheaded body found in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police patrols on Monday found a beheaded body in southern Mosul, a police source said.

“Police found on Monday (Jan. 26) the beheaded body of a civilian in Wadi Hagar region in southern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Police started an investigation into the incident,” he also said.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

3 civilians injured by bomb blast in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were wounded in a bomb explosion in central Mosul, a police source said on Monday.

“An explosive charge went off in Halab street in central Mosul, injuring three civilians, including a woman,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not add further details.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

IED wounds 5 in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Five persons, including a policeman, on Monday were wounded when a car bomb targeted a security checkpoint in downtown Mosul city, according to a local source.

“On Monday, a car rigged with explosives detonated near a police checkpoint in al-Dawasa area, downtown Mosul, wounding five, including a cop,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

6 wounded in Diala blast

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Six civilians on Monday were wounded in a blast in downtown Baaquba city, according to a local media source.

“A motorbike bomb went off today near a joint checkpoint set up by police and Sahwa (Awakening ) forces in al-Tahrir area, downtown Baaquba city, wounding six civilians,” a media source from Diala’s police department told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The Sahwa councils are anti-Qaeda fighters working in coordination with the Multi-National Force (MNF) and the Iraqi government.

10 cops wounded in Baghdad explosion

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Ten police personnel on Monday were wounded when an explosive charge targeted their vehicle in western Baghdad, according to a police source.

“A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) went off in al-Mansour area while a police patrol vehicle was passing the location, wounding 10 patrolmen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The source did not provide further details.
