Palestinian legislator Ahmed Mubarak sentenced to 19 months imprisonment by Israeli occupation military court

Tuesday February 24, 2009 04:39 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

The Israeli occupation government military Court in Ofer prison sentenced on Monday Palestinian legislator Ahmed Abdul-Aziz Mubarak, from Al Jalazoan refugee camp in Ramallah, to 19 months imprisonment.

In a press release, Hamas legislators in the occupied West Bank slammed the court’s decision and considered it another Israeli violation that targeted the elected Palestinian official, including legislators and mayors.

The legislators demanded different human rights groups, and international parliaments to intervene and ensure the release of all Palestinian legislators and officials illegally detained by Israel.

It is worth mentioning that Mubarak was arrested on April 17, 2007, only a month after he was released from an Israeli detention facility.

The Israeli occupation government is currently holding 49 elected Palestinian legislators and ministers captive without any legal basis. Head of the Legislative Council, Dr. Ahmed Bahar is among the detained Palestinian officials. Several mayors, heads of village councils and other officials are also detained by Israel.

Mubarak was repeatedly arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in previous years; in 1978 he was kidnapped by the army for protesting against the Camp David accord, and on December 17, 1992, he and several Hamas officials were detained to Mark Al Zohour in southern Lebanon.

He was also kidnapped by the army in 1995, and in 1997 he became “wanted” and was kidnapped in 2002 after the Israel occupation terrorist army carried out the “Operation Defensive Shield” in which the army invaded every part of the occupied West Bank.
