US Female Soldier, 3 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, February 22, 2009

 

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

-  US forces announced the death of a female soldier, who was killed in combat in Iraq. The soldier is Cosline Walter
, who is 19 years-old from the 29th army brigade. She is 103rd female soldier to be killed in Iraq. This increases the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq this month to 10 and to 4,247 since the US invasion of Iraqi in 2003.

- An Iraqi army officer from the Rapid Intervention Force was killed by gunmen in Wassit.

- A group of gunmen attacked an Iraqi army checkpoint in Balad Ruz, injuring the members of the force.

- Four people were injured in a blast in Al-Mansoor area, in Mosul.

IED wounds 5 soldiers in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Five Iraqi servicemen on Sunday were wounded when an explosive charge went off in southern Mosul city, according to a security source.

“Today, an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted an Iraqi army patrol vehicle near Hamam al-Alil district, southern Mosul, injuring five patrolmen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The wounded were taken to a hospital for treatment,” the source noted, providing no further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mosul blast kills officer, soldier, wounds 3

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An army officer and a soldier were killed and three servicemen were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near their patrol vehicle in western Mosul city, according to an army source.

“This afternoon, an army lieutenant and a soldier were killed and three other soldiers were wounded when an explosive charge detonated near their patrol vehicle in Hawi al-Kanisa area, western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The explosion caused damage to the patrolmen’s Hummer vehicle,” the source added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Civilian wounded by unknown gunmen fire south of Hilla

BABEL / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian man was wounded by unidentified gunmen fire south of the city of al-Hilla on Sunday, police said.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire today (Feb. 22) at a civilian man in front of his house in the city of al-Qassem, (30 km) south of Hilla, leaving him seriously wounded,” a security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Policemen arrested two persons suspected of involvement in the incident,” he said, adding the two men are under investigative custody.

Meanwhile, three mortars landed today on the headquarters of the Iraqi army’s 31st Brigade in central Hilla but caused no casualties, the same source added.

Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.
