37 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Scores Injured, February 11, 2009

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- Ahmed Fat'hi Al-Jubouri, an Iraqi Islamic Party leader, was assassinated in Mosul.

- Izzuddin Khalaf Ayoub, Professor of Psychology in Al-Anbar University, was assassinated in Al-Falloujah.

- 3 Iraqi policemen were killed in an attack on Mosul.

- 2 policemen were killed in a roadside bomb in Al-'Adhim, Ba'aqouba.

- 16 Iraqis were killed, 43 were injured in Al-Baya'a explosion, in Baghdad.

- A US soldier was injured in a grenade attack in Al-Falloujah.

- A Sahwa fighter was killed in an attack in Buhruz.

- 3 US soldiers were injured in a grenade attack in Tikrit.

- An Iraqi was killed, five were injured in Rasheeq juncture, in Baghdad.

3 U.S. soldiers injured in Tikrit

SALAH El-Din / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three U.S. soldiers were wounded on Wednesday in Tikrit by unknown gunmen, said a police source.
“Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday morning (Feb. 11) attacked a U.S. patrol of three vehicles on the main street in central Tikrit using hand grenades,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The attackers injured three U.S. soldiers and damaged a Hummer,” he also said.
“U.S. forces sealed off the area and rushed the wounded to a U.S. medical facility,” he noted.

A source from the joint coordination center in Tikrit confirmed the incident, without giving more details.
Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

3 policemen killed by gunmen in Mosul February 11, 2009 - 04:54:21

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three policemen were killed when gunmen attacked their patrol in eastern Mosul, a source from Ninewa police said on Wednesday. “The armed men opened fire on the policemen’s patrol in al-Dargazliya neighborhood, eastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen were walking when they opened fire on the stationed police patrol, killing three of the patrol’s personnel,” he said. The source pointed out that the armed men were able to escape after launching the attack.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Baghdad’s car bomb casualties rise to 42

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Casualties from the car bomb blast that occurred earlier today in southwestern Baghdad have reached 42, according to an official source.

“The toll has reached 10 dead and 32 wounded,” an official spokesperson for Baghdad’s Operations Command (BOC), Qassem Ata, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier today, a source from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said that a parked car bomb detonated near a parking lot in al-Biyaa, southwestern Baghdad, killing three civilians and wounding 20 others, according to an initial count.

Academician shot down near Falluja

The morgue in Anbar on Wednesday received the body of a university professor, who was shot down near Falluja, according to a local medic.

“The body belongs to Izz al-Din Khalaf Ayyoub, a psychology professor in Anbar University,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Ayyoub was shot down by unknown gunmen while he was leaving his house in al-Kartan area, al-Khalidiya district, on his way to the university,” the source explained.
“The professor died as a result of serious wounds and his body was delivered to his family,” he added.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of the province, is 110 km west of Baghdad.

8 killed, wounded by IED in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

An improvised explosive device (IED) on Wednesday detonated in the capital Baghdad, leaving eight civilians killed or wounded, according to an Interior Ministry source.

“A roadside explosive charge detonated on Wednesday noon in al-Waziriya area, northeastern Baghdad, killing one civilian and wounding seven others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The source did not provide further details.

2 policemen killed, 3 wounded in Hilla

Two policemen were killed and three others were wounded on Wednesday when a roadside bomb went off at al-Askandariya district, north of Hilla city, said a source from the Babel police.

“The bomb was planted at the main street of Hiteen residential compound of al-Askandariya district, 50 km north of Hilla,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The bomb targeted a convoy of Babel protection contingent,” he added.
Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

Suicide attack kills soldier, wounds 3 in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi army soldier was killed and three persons were wounded on Wednesday in a suicide car bomb explosion in northern Mosul, a security source said.
“A suicide bomber blew up a car rigged with explosives on Wednesday (Feb. 11) targeting a joint patrol of Iraqi and U.S. troops in al-Hadbaa neighborhood in northern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast killed an Iraqi soldier and injured three people, including another soldier,” he added.
He gave no further details.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Gunmen kill Sahwa fighter in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: A suspected al-Qaeda armed group killed a Sahwa fighter on Wednesday in south of Baaquba city, according to a police source.
“An armed group believed to belong to al-Qaeda network on Wednesday (Feb. 11) attacked the house of a Sahwa fighter in al-Abara region in Bahraz, south of Baaquba, and showered him with bullets,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The dead man belongs to Bani Tameem tribe and he is the brother of director of the Diala complaints department,” he added.

The Sahwa councils are anti-Qaeda fighters working in coordination with the Multi-National Force (MNF) and the Iraqi government. Headed by local chieftains, the councils have been credited with helping reduce violence in many Iraqi provinces, like Anbar, Diala, Ninewa, and Salah al-Din.

2 people wounded by bomb blast in Mosul

A policeman and a civilian was wounded on Wednesday n a bomb blast in southern Mosul, a security source said. “An explosive device exploded on Wednesday (Feb. 11) amid a popular market in al-Mansour neighborhood in southern Mosul, injuring a cop and a civilian,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“They were rushed to the Mosul public hospital in southern Mosul for treatment,” he noted. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
