As long as the siege is in force, the Israeli war on Gaza is not over, says Awad Awad: As long as the siege is in force, the Israeli war is not over [ 29/12/2009 - 10:04 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Mohamed Awad, the secretary-general of the Palestinian cabinet, stated Monday that the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip did not stop since the blockade did not end, stressing that the Palestinian people’s rallying around the government in Gaza increased thanks to its commitment to the Palestinian rights and constants. In a statement on the first anniversary of the Israeli war on Gaza, Dr. Awad said that the adherence to the national constants and principles and the popular rallying around the government contributed to the victory of Gaza people in the war. He underlined that the Israeli occupation failed to achieve its objectives during its crazy war on Gaza, mainly to subdue the Palestinian people and bring down the government. The Palestinian official pointed out that the Palestinian government had prepared contingency plans before Israel waged its war on Gaza and supervised post-war relief and sheltering plans. The official added that the secretariat of the cabinet in Gaza provided about €27,000,000 for war victims especially those whose homes were partially or completely destroyed and the families of martyrs and the wounded. For his part, Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, said Monday that the Israeli occupation failed to topple the Palestinian government in Gaza and to eliminate the resistance during its war on Gaza. In a news conference held during a memorial ceremony for slain policemen killed by Israel, Dr. Bahar added that the Israeli occupation also failed to release Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The deputy speaker highlighted that the Gaza people rebelled one of the most powerful military forces in the world, which failed to undermine their determination and steadfastness. The lawmaker noted that Israel, in the first day of its war, killed 249 policemen as they were training, adding that this crime violated the fourth Geneva convention and the international humanitarian law. He underlined that the Gaza police are not like the police that existed earlier in the Strip because they are formed by a national decision and not by Oslo accords or US officer Keith Dayton.
