ARIJ Report On Increased Israeli Violations Against Palestinian Homes in Jerusalem

Wednesday December 23, 2009 12:28 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

The Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ), reported that the Israeli occupation government increased its violations against the Palestinians and in Jerusalem by forcing them out of their homes, internally displacing them and demolishing their homes.

Home Demolition Ongoing

The Center added that the demolishing of Palestinians homes and the ongoing violations the Palestinians in the city witnesses a sharp escalation during the war against the Gaza Strip in January this year.

ARIJ reported that Israel significantly escalated its policies against Palestinian homes in Jerusalem especially in the period between 2000 and 2009, and stated that Israel practically carrying acts of “revenge” against the Palestinians in the city.

The Israeli Occupation demolished 573 Palestinian homes between 2000 and 2008, and demolished 76 Palestinian homes in 2009.

Israel also issued orders to demolish additional 908 homes in East Jerusalem and removed several Palestinian families from their homes in order to replace them with Jewish settlers.

ARIJ further stated that the occupation is using the pretext of “unlicensed constructions” to demolish the Palestinian homes, and also uses the pretext of “security considerations” to demolish other homes that are close to Jewish settlements and the Annexation Wall, illegally built in the occupied territories.

Israel also enforced further restrictions against the Palestinians preventing them from obtaining construction permits which forced several families to build homes without permits.
