2 US Solders, 3 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks August 28, 2009 2 U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad August 28, 2009 - 09:10:00 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Two U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb early Friday in eastern Baghdad, according to a U.S. army statement. “Two 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Soldiers died of wounds suffered following an improvised explosive device in eastern Baghdad Aug. 28 at approximately 2:30 a.m,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The incident is currently under investigation,” the statement noted. Seven U.S. soldiers were killed in August 2009. The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,336, including 116 killed in 2009. SH (P) Roadside bomb devastates U.S. vehicle August 27, 2009 - 12:07:06 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: One U.S. vehicle was devastated when it was hit by a roadside bomb in western Baghdad, a source from the Iraq police said on Thursday. “The incident took place on Thursday in al-Ghazaliya neighborhood,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source was unable to report any casualties as U.S. forces cordoned off the area. For his part, Nadir Suleiman, spokesperson for the Multi National Forces (MNF) in Iraq, said that “no news so far has been received regarding the incident.” MH (P)/SR Gunman killed, another wounded by MNF soldiers’ fire in Kirkuk August 27, 2009 - 08:27:25 KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: Multi-National Force (MNF) soldiers shot down a gunman and wounded another while attempting to plant an improvised explosive device in southwestern Kirkuk on Thursday, a source from the city’s Joint Coordination Center said. “MNF forces were on an air reconnaissance mission when two persons were seen emplacing an IED. The soldiers opened fire at them, killing one gunman and wounding the other,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The body was removed to a morgue and the wounded gunman was taken to a hospital for treatment,” the source said, not giving more information. The oil-rich Kirkuk, a city of mixed Kurdish, Arab and Turkmen population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P) Civilian killed, 2 soldiers wounded in Mosul blast August 27, 2009 - 08:21:30 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: A civilian man was killed and two Iraqi soldiers wounded in an improvised explosive device attack that targeted a security patrol in northern Mosul city on Thursday, a police source in Ninewa said. “The IED went off near an Iraqi army patrol in al-Mohandessin neighborhood, northern Mosul, leaving one civilian man killed and two Iraqi patrolmen wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The blast left minor damage to one of the patrol vehicles,” he added. He said that the body was removed to a morgue while the two wounded soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The source did not give further details. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) Policeman killed, another wounded in Mosul blast August 27, 2009 - 04:06:55 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: A policeman was killed and another wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast that targeted a police patrol in northern Mosul city on Thursday, a security source said. “The IED went off near a police patrol in al-Baladiyat neighborhood, northern Mosul, leaving a policeman killed and another wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The patrol was on the mission of securing a road in the area where the motorcade of the city mayor has driven by prior to the explosion,” the source added. AmR (P) 4 wounded in IED blast in Baghdad August 27, 2009 - 02:41:15 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Four persons, including two policemen, were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in southeastern Baghdad on Thursday, a security source said. “The IED, which was planed by unidentified persons on the main road in New Baghdad district, southeastern Baghdad, went off on Thursday (Aug. 27), went off as a police vehicle was driving by, wounding two policemen and two civilians others near the blast scene,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Security forces sealed off the explosion site and carried the four wounded persons to a hospital for treatment,” he added.
