20 Iraqis Killed, 35 Wounded in Sinjar Suicide Bombing August 13, 2009 Sinjar suicide blast casualties up to 55 August 13, 2009 - 05:50:02 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Thursday’s earlier blast casualties in Sinjar district rose to 20 deaths and 35 wounded, according to the Talafar Public Hopsital director. “The number of deaths from the suicide bombing attack that targeted a café in Sinjar, (120 km) west of Mosul, rose to 20 while the wounded rose to 35, some of them in a serious condition,” Dr. Saleh Qaddo Haydar told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The wounded were rushed to hospitals in the Iraqi Kurdistan region while only one wounded person arrived at the hospital in Talafar, (60 km) northwest of Mosul,” he said. Earlier, a police source said that seventeen people were killed and 25 others wounded when two suicide bombers detonated their explosive belts inside a café in Sinjar. “The victims were all civilians who were gathered inside a popular café in an outdoor souk (market) in Sinjar,” the source said. The mayor of Sinjar had said the blast occurred when the bombers blew up their explosive belts inside the Barbarosh café in the heart of Sinjar’s main souk. Mosul, the volatile capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 20 killed in double suicide bombing in north Iraq BAGHDAD, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Twenty people were killed and 30 others injured by a double suicide bombing in the restive northern Iraqi province of Nineveh Thursday, said a police source. The local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that two suicide bombers exploded themselves in a cafe in the Sinjer city of Nineveh province, killing 20 people and wounding 30others. The cafe was severely damaged, said the source who first put the casualties at 15 killed and 16 wounded. Sinjer city is located some 470 km north of Baghdad. Nineveh province is said to be one of the last strongholds of al-Qaida fighters in the war-torn country. Sporadic attacks continue in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities and towns after U.S. combat forces pullout.
