21 Iraqis Killed, 64 Injured, 126 Arrested, April 7, 2009



Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- 10 Iraqis were killed, 18 were injured in Al-Kadhimiya blast.

- 2 bodies were found in Al-Tahsiniya area, in Basra.

- Five Sahwa fighters were injured by a motorbike blast at a checkpoint in Al-Dhulu'iya, Salahuddin Province.

- Al-Qusur US base in Mosul was attacked with five mortar rounds.

- A policeman was killed during clashes with gunmen in Al-'Adhim.

Kadhimiya blast toll up to 22

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Eight persons were killed and 14 others were wounded as a result of the car bomb explosion that occurred earlier today in Baghdad’s Kadhimiya city, the Iraqi police said on Tuesday.

“The toll from the car bomb blast that occurred near a Shiite mosque on al-Nuwwab St. in Baghdad’s northern city of al-Kadhimiya has reached eight dead and 14 wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that one civilian was killed and four others were wounded in the blast.

5 killed, wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian on Tuesday was killed and four others were wounded when a car bomb detonated in northern Baghdad, according to a police source.

“A booby-trapped car went off in al-Kadhimiya city, northern Baghdad, killing a civilian and injuring four others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source did not provide further details.

35 wounded in Anbar suicide blast

The casualties from the suicide car bomb explosion in Falluja rose to one dead and 35 wounded, a medical source said on Tuesday.

“The explosion killed one civilian and injured 35, including five policemen,” Dr. Mohamed al-Zawbaei told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A police source had said earlier that a suicide bomber blew up a booby-trapped car on Tuesday (April 7) near a checkpoint in Nahr Flieh Ajbeel, south of Falluja, killing a civilian and injuring 11, including five policemen.

Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.

Car bomb kills civilian, injures 11 in Anbar

A civilian was killed and 11 others were wounded Tuesday in a suicide car bomb explosion in the south of Falluja, a police source said.

“A suicide bomber blew up a booby-trapped car on Tuesday (April 7) near a checkpoint in Nahr Flieh Ajbeel, south of Falluja, killing a civilian and injuring 11, including five policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that the death toll most likely to increase.

He gave no more details.

Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.

U.S. forces kill gunman in Mosul

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

U.S. forces have killed one gunman and arrested five others during raids in southern Mosul, a media advisor for the forces said on Tuesday.

“On Sunday evening, U.S. forces killed a gunman in Wadi Hajar area, southern Mosul, during a raid that targeted a suicide bombing cell,” the advisor told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “In light of intelligence tips, the forces surrounded a house and ordered those inside to come out,” he explained. “One of the gunmen escaped over the roofs of adjoining houses, forcing U.S. forces to shoot him and kill him instantly,” he added. “Three other suicide bombers were arrested later,” the official pointed out, adding that two other members of al-Qaeda in Iraq were captured during a raid on another house.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mosul morgue receives unknown body from U.S. base

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: A morgue in Mosul on Tuesday received an unknown body from U.S. forces in the city, according to a local medic.

“The body, which belongs to a 35-year-old man, bore signs of gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen,” the medic told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Sahwa fighter found dead in Babel

Iraqi army forces on Tuesday found a body of a Sahwa council member in northern Babel province, according to a local police source.

“Today, army personnel found a corpse belonging to a Sahwa fighter in a village in al-Iskandriya district (50 km north of Hilla),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The body bore signs of torture and gunshot wounds,” the source added. The Sahwa councils are anti-Qaeda fighters working in coordination with the Multi-National Force (MNF) and the Iraqi government. Headed by local chieftains, the councils have been credited with helping reduce violence in many Iraqi provinces, like Anbar, Diala, Ninewa, and Salah al-Din. Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

Arrests:

43 wanted men detained in Dhi-Qar

Police forces arrested 43 wanted men in separate areas of Dhi-Qar over the past two days, according to a statement of the police department on Tuesday.

“Police forces on Monday and Tuesday (April 6-7) arrested 43 wanted men during security raids in separate areas of Dhi-Qar,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Nassiriya, the capital of Dhi-Qar, lies 380 km south of Baghdad.

10 people arrested in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Joint security forces arrested ten people on Tuesday during a security operation in southwestern Kirkuk, the local police chief said.

“Iraqi security forces, backed by U.S. troops, managed to arrest ten wanted and suspected gunmen during a crackdown operation on Tuesday afternoon (April 7) in Dakmat, Tal Mahdi and 7 Nissan villages in al-Rahsad district in southwestern Kirkuk,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A dangerous wanted man, who belongs to Ansar al-Sunna armed group, was among the detainees,” he added.

Jaish Ansar al-Sunna, or Army of the Followers of the Sunna is a militant group based in northern and central Iraq, and includes both Kurdish and Sunni Arab as well as foreign fighters.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

65 wanted men, suspects nabbed in Basra

Fourteen wanted men and 51 suspects on Tuesday were arrested during search-and-raid operations in Basra province, according to a police source.

“Those arrested are wanted on criminal and terror-related charges,” the relations and media office of Basra’s police told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Eighteen unlicensed vehicles and 17 motorbikes were confiscated during the operations,” the office added.

The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

3 arrested in connection with Dalouiya blast

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three gunmen on Tuesday were arrested in connection with a suicide bombing that ripped through Salah al-Din’s Dalouiya district and wounded seven army personnel yesterday.

“During an early hour this morning, Iraqi police forces conducted a raid in al-Huweija al-Bahariyya area, western Dalouiya, and engaged in clashes with gunmen..,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Three gunmen were arrested and a policeman was injured as a result of the clashes, the source explained. On Monday (April 6), a suicide bomber blew himself up while Iraqi army personnel were raiding a deserted house in al-Huweija village, wounding seven servicemen.

Administratively affiliated with Salah al-Din province, Dalouiya lies 90 km north of Baghdad; while Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.
