47 Iraqis Killed, 143 Injured, 122 Arrested, US Soldier Killed, 6 Attacks on US Forces, April 6, 2009


Amsi.org reported that the six Baghdad car bomb explosions resulted in killing 32 people and injuring 120 others.

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- The 1920s Brigades attacked US Al-Bakr air base with rockets and destroyed two US military vehicles west of Baghdad.

- Al-Rashideen Army group attacked a US base in West Baghdad with Hasseb rocket.

- Al-Batirah US air base, north of Al-'Amarah was attacked with seven katyousha rockets.

- A US patrol was attacked with a roadside bomb north of Al-Falloujah.

-
16 Iraqis were killed, 45 were injured as a result of the blasts in Al-Hussainiya and Al-Ma'alef areas in Baghdad.

-
4 Iraqis were killed, 15 were injured as a result of the blast in Al-'Alawi area in Baghdad.

10 Iraqis were killed, 65 were injured as a result of the blast in Al-Sadr City, in Baghdad.

- A US-recruited Sahwa fighter was killed, three were injured by a hand grenade explosion thrown at them in Samarra.

2 Iraqis were killed in Jalawla, Al-Falloujah, by fire from a group of gunmen.

U.S. forces kill civilian in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

U.S. forces killed a civilian during a raid in southern Mosul, a police source said on Monday.

“U.S. forces on Sunday night (April 5) killed a civilian when they raided his house in Wadi Hajar region in southern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He gave no further details.

The media advisor of the U.S. forces, al-Muqdad Jibreel, denied any information about the incident.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Gunmen kill leader of al-Hadbaa list in Mosul

Unknown gunmen killed a leader of al-Hadbaa list on Monday in western Mosul, a security source said.

“Unknown gunmen on Monday night (April 6) killed Falah Mohamed Younis al-Farahat, a leader of al-Hadbaa list and the chief of al-Farahat tribe, in Talafar district in west of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“They showered him with bullets in front of his house in 17 Tmouz neighborhood in western Mosul,” he added.

Al-Hadbaa got the majority of seats of the Ninewa provincial council as it got 19 seats out of the 37-seat council.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Suicide bombing in Dalouyia injures 7 soldiers

Seven Iraqi army soldiers on Monday were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in Salah al-Din’s al-Dalouyia, according to a source from the district’s police.

“The bomber blew himself up while an army force was raiding an empty house in al-Huweja village of al-Dalouyia,” Lieutenant Colonel Hussein Ismail told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The house was totally destroyed,” he said.

Administratively affiliated with Salah al-Din province, al-Dalouyia district lies 90 km northern Baghdad.

Sadr car bomb toll up to 65

Casualties from the car bomb blast that ripped though Baghdad’s Sadr city earlier today have risen to 75, including women and children, the Iraqi police said on Monday.

“The toll from the car bomb explosion that occurred near Sadr city’s al-Dakhel market, northeastern Baghdad, reached 10 dead, including two women, and 65 wounded persons, including women and children,” a police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier reports said that 10 persons were killed and 30 others were wounded by the booby-trapped car. A series of blasts ripped through different parts of the capital Baghdad today, leaving dozens of persons killed or wounded.

Casualties from Baghdad’s Husseiniya blast up to 14

Casualties from the car bomb explosion that occurred earlier today in Baghdad’s northern neighborhood of al-Husseiniya have risen to 14, including four dead, according to a police source.

Four persons were killed and 10 others were wounded in the car bomb blast that occurred near a popular market in al-Husseiniya,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. A police source had said that the explosives-rigged car killed two persons and wounded eight others. A series of blasts ripped through different parts of the capital Baghdad today, leaving at least 21 persons killed and 57 others wounded.

Rockets hit U.S. base in Amara

Seven Katyusha rockets on Monday hit a U.S. base northwest of Amara city, without causing any casualties, according to an Iraqi army source.

“The U.S. base is at al-Batera airport, 15 km northwest Amara,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The rockets were launched from the nearby area of al-Basateen,” he said. “The missiles hit the surroundings of the airport, without causing any casualties or damages,” he added. Amara, the capital city of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

3 civilians killed in Diala attack

Three civilians on Monday were killed in an armed attack near Baaquba city, according to a local police source.

“This afternoon, unknown gunmen opened fire on a civilian vehicle on a main street in Jalawlaa district (155 km north of Baaquba), killing three persons,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source said that the gunmen fled to an unknown destination after the attack. Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Twin blast in Baghdad kills 12, wounds 22

Two explosions on Monday killed 12 persons and wounded 22 others in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, according to a police source.

“A car bomb went off in front of a clinic in al-Maarif area, while another detonated in a popular market in the same area, killing 12 persons and wounding 22 others, including women and children,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, five blasts ripped through different parts of the capital Baghdad, leaving 21 persons killed and 57 others wounded.

U.S. soldier dies in Diala

A U.S. serviceman died during combat operations in Diala province, the third U.S. casualty this month, according to an army statement.

“A U.S. Coalition forces Soldier died as a result of operations in Diyala province, Iraq, April 5,” read a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin and release by the Department of Defense,” the statement added. The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,266.

Sadr car bomb toll reaches 40

5th Baghdad blast: 2 wounded

Two civilians on Monday were wounded when a sticky explosive charge detonated in southwestern Baghdad, the fifth blast to hit the capital today.

“A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a civilian vehicle in al-Saydiya area, southwestern Baghdad, wounding two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier in the day, a police source said that two civilians were killed and eight others were wounded when an explosives-rigged car detonated at the entrance of al-Husseiniya neighborhood, northern Baghdad. Meanwhile, two blasts in Baghdad’s areas of al-Naieriya and al-Alawi killed seven persons, including a security guard, and wounded 19 others. A fourth blast was caused by a car bomb near a gas station in Sadr city’s al-Dakhel area, northeastern Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding five others.

Baghdad’s Alawi blast casualties reach 20

Casualties from the car bomb blast that ripped through Baghdad’s al-Alawi area earlier today have reached twenty, including five dead, according to a police source.

“The toll from the car bomb explosion that occurred near downtown Baghdad Cinema has reached five dead and 15 wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a security source said that the blast killed five civilians and wounded 10 others.

One civilian on Monday was killed and five others were wounded in a Baghdad car bomb explosion, the fourth to hit the Iraqi capital today.

“Today, a car bomb detonated near a gas station in Sadr city’s al-Dakhel area, northeastern Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding five others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier in the day, a police source said that two civilians were killed and eight others were wounded when an explosives-rigged car detonated at the entrance of al-Husseiniya neighborhood, northern Baghdad. Earlier today, a security source said that the blast, caused by an explosive charge, wounded two civilians.

Civilian shot down in Falluja

One civilian on Monday was killed by unknown gunmen in a Falluja village, according to a local security source.

“Unknown gunmen driving a vehicle opened fire on a civilian in al-Bou Youssuf village, western Falluja, killing him on the spot,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The gunmen have fled to an unknown destination,” the source added. Falluja was a scene of armed conflict between U.S. and Iraqi forces on the one hand and al-Qaeda gunmen on the other. Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Iraqi army forces on Monday arrested 14 wanted men, while police forces detained seven wanted men in west of Nassiriya, according to a statement of the Thi-Qar police.

“Iraqi army forces arrested 14 wanted men in al-Bathaa district in west of Nassiriya,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Policemen arrested 7 wanted men in the same district in west of Nassiriya,” it added.

Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad.

2 arrested in police ambush in Kut

Two wanted persons on Monday were arrested on criminal charges in central Kut city, according to a police commander.

“On Monday, forces from the Interior Ministry’s Quick Response Department (QRD) captured two wanted men in an ambush in downtown Kut city,” Maj. Aziz Latif al-Amara told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The arrests were made in light of intelligence tips,” the official explained.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

2 physicians arrested for supporting armed groups in Diala

Two physicians on Monday were arrested in Diala province because of their links to armed groups, according to a local police source.

“In coordination with U.S. troops, a joint force from the Iraqi army and police arrested the director of al-Batoul Maternity Hospital in Baaquba al-Jadida neighborhood, downtown Baaquba, as well as a physician from the hospital, for supporting al-Qaeda organization,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Police arrest 15 persons in Kirkuk

Fifteen persons, including 12 wanted men, on Monday were captured during a raid in Kirkuk city, according to a local police chief.

“A joint force conducted a raid-and-search operation in the neighborhoods of al-Orouba, al-Baath, al-Mamdouda, and al-Nidaa, as well as Hisar village (10 km south of Kirkuk city), during which 15 men were arrested, including 12 members of al-Naqshabandiya group,” Brig. Sarhad Qadir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “One vehicle, CDs and leaflets were confiscated during the operation,” the official added.

Al-Naqshabandiya is a group that introduces itself as an Islamic spiritual dogmatic organization, but its ideologies changed into ones of armed struggle against the occupation forces. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 180 km southeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Five wanted persons on Monday were arrested during a wide-scale raid near Kirkuk city, according to a local security source.

“This morning, a force from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested five wanted men during a raid on several houses in al-Numaniya district (40 km north of Kut city),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Those arrested are wanted on terror and criminal charges,” the source pointed out.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 180 km southeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

2 al-Qaeda elements arrested in Wassit

Joint Iraqi forces on Monday arrested two al-Qaeda wanted men and seized amounts of weapons and ammunition in northern Wassit, a security source said

“Acting on intelligence information, Iraqi police and army forces on Monday (April 6) arrested two al-Qaeda wanted men during a crackdown operation in al-Suwaiyra district in north of Kut,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“They seized weapons and explosives found in their possession,” he added.

He did not give further details.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

Bank manager arrested in Wassit

Police forces on Monday arrested a bank manager in northern Wassit and found amounts of weapons and explosives in his possession, a senior police office said.

“A force from the Quick Response Department (QRD) on Monday (April 6) arrested Hamza Yassin Abd, the manager of the al-Suwaiyra bank, and found amounts of weapons and explosives in his possession while raiding the bank,” Major Aziz Latied al-Amara told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“They seized amounts of missiles, bombs and hand grenades hidden in the bank,” he added.

Al-Suwaiyra is 135 km north of Kut, the capital of Wassit, which lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

74 suspects, wanted men arrested in Basra

Police forces arrested 74 suspects and wanted men and seized amounts of weapons and ammunitions during a wide-scale security operation waged on Monday in separate areas of Basra, the media office of the Basra police said.

“Police forces launched wide-scale crackdown operations in north and west of Basra, where 39 wanted men and 35 suspected gunmen were arrested,” the office told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The forces seized 5 guns and mortar shells,” it added.

Basra is 590 km south of Baghdad.
