2 US Soldiers Sniped, 12 Iraqis Killed, 7 Bodies Found, 20 Injured, 44 Arrested, 5 Attacks on US Forces April 30, 2009 Yaqen.net reported the following news: - Ansar Al-Sunna announced attacking the US military base in Baghdad airport with a Sikhoy rocket. - Ansar Al-Sunna also announced attacking a US Hummer military vehicle and destroying it, north of Baghdad, resulting in casualties. - A roadside bomb exploded targeting a US mine-sweeper vehicle on Al-Qaem-Rawa road, Al-Anbar Province. - Iraqi police started arresting all those who were released from US forces prisons. - US military base was attacked with a rocket. - 2 policemen were killed, three were injured in a roadside bomb in Mosul. - 2 policemen were injured by a roadside bomb south of Mosul. - A person was injured in an explosion in Al-Iskandariy, north of Babil. - Seven people were arrested by Iraqi army in Al-Hillah. - 25 people were arrested in Diala by Iraqi government forces. - 3 people were injured by a bomb explosion at Al-Karradah juncture in Baghdad. - A US Zell vehicle was destroyed in a roadside bomb near the city of Hitt. - 10 more Iraqis died of wounds they sustained from yesterday's explosions in Al-Sadr City. New reports mentioned that the death toll increased to 51 and injuries to 76, instead of yesterday's figures of 41 deaths and 68 injuries. ======================================= Bodies of 3 brothers found near Mosul April 30, 2009 - 06:42:07 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Policemen found the bodies of three brothers west of the city of Mosul on Thursday, a security source in Ninewa said. “The bodies were found shot inside their vehicle in Tal Abta area, Talafar district, (60 km) west of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 4 unknown bodies found near Ramadi hospital April 30, 2009 - 06:32:44 ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: Four unidentified decomposed bodies were found near al-Ramadi Hospital west of the city, according to a security source in al-Anbar province on Thursday. “The bodies were found buried near al-Ramadi Public Hospital, west of the city. They were found after a terrorist was arrested and confessed to the place where these bodies were buried,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Investigations are underway with the man, who had links with one of the terrorist cells that used to spread in the province, to identify the bodies and hand the remains to their relatives,” the source noted. Ramadi, the capital city of the predominantly Sunni province of al-Anbar, lies 100 km west of Baghdad. AmR (P) Sniper downs 2 U.S. soldiers in Amara April 30, 2009 - 02:12:50 MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq: Two U.S. soldiers were killed by sniper bullets in the city of al-Amara on Thursday, said a security source from the Missan province police. “The two U.S. soldiers were killed when their patrol came under sniper fire in central Amara,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Iraqi police and U.S. forces cordoned off the area and conducted a wide-scale search operation looking for the sniper,” he said. Aswat al-Iraq news agency failed to contact the U.S. army for comments. Amara, the capital city of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad. MH (P)/AmR Injuries: Two policemen wounded in Mosul April 30, 2009 - 01:06:11 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Two policemen on Thursday were wounded when a roadside bomb went off targeting their patrol southern Mosul city, said a source from Ninewa province’s police. “The incident took place in Dorat Baghdad neighborhood, southern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He pointed out that the two injured policemen were admitted to a nearby hospital. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. MH (P)/SR 4 Islamic party’s guards injured in Falluja April 30, 2009 - 08:47:20 ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: Four bodyguards of the Islamic party in Falluja were wounded on Thursday in a bomb explosion in the south of the city, a source from the party said. “An improvised explosive device went off on Thursday (April 30) targeting the motorcade of a senior official of the Islamic party in Nezal neighborhood in the south of Falluja, injuring four of his bodyguards,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The explosion also damaged his vehicle,” he added. Falluja is 45 km west of Baghdad, while Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 2 IEDs wound 3 civilians in Mosul April 30, 2009 - 06:27:23 NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Three civilians were injured in two separate blasts in Ninewa’s Mosul city, a local security source said on Thursday. “Yesterday evening, an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a National Police patrol vehicle in al-Quds neighborhood, eastern Mosul, wounding two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Another device targeted a U.S. patrol vehicle in Mosul al-Jadida area, western Mosul, wounding one civilian,” according to the same source. SS (P) Arrests: 19 wanted men nabbed in Basra April 30, 2009 - 09:34:19 BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces on Thursday arrested 19 wanted men during a security operation in separate areas of Basra, the Basra police’s media office said. “Policemen launched security raids on Thursday (April 30) in separate areas of Basra, where 19 wanted men were detained and 17 unlicensed vehicles and 3 motorbikes were seized,” the office told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Police also defused an explosive charge in Manawi Pasha region in central Basra,” it added. Basra is 590 km south of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 15 wanted men arrested in Khalis April 30, 2009 - 08:27:27 DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces arrested 15 wanted men in Khalis district in northern Diala, a security source said on Thursday. “Police forces on Wednesday night (April 29) waged a crackdown operation in al-Ulaybat region in southern Khales, north of Baaquba, where they arrested 15 wanted men,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Investigations are still underway with the detainees,” he added, without giving further details. Ba'aquba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
