Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams to Visit Gaza

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams plans to visit the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel next week.

Israeli officials have refused to meet Adams during his trip because he would not rule out meeting members of Hamas, according to the BBC.

Adams will visit the Gaza Strip to survey the damage from Israel’s three-week war on the territory, and will meet Palestinian Authority officials.

The Irish Republican leader, who visited the Middle East in 2006, said it was important to include all the parties to the conflict in a dialogue.

"As the leader of a party which was censored and demonized and whose members were killed, I see dialogue between all sides as key to building a successful peace process," he said.

"So I will meet with all sides and urge all sides to end all armed actions and to engage in meaningful dialogue,” he was quoted by the BBC as saying.
