Lebanon PFLP Commemorates Abu Ali Mustafa in 7th Anniversary of his Assassination

Lebanon PFLP mark 7th anniversary of Abu Ali Mustafa assassination

Date: 06 / 09 / 2008  Time:  10:44
Gaza – Ma’an -

The Students’ Association and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) commemorated the memory of the organization's second Secretary-General, Abu Ali Mustaafa, by observing the seventh anniversary of the death of his assassination by Israeli occupation forces.

The political leader left the West Bank after the 1967 war and the beginning of the Israeli occupation. He returned to the area 32 years later after a deal for his safe passage was negotiated between the then Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. Upon his return to the West Bank Abu Ali Mustafa assumed the leadership of the PFLP, but was killed in a targeted assassination by Israeli occupation forces by two rockets at his office in Ramallah in August 2001.

The commemoration of Abu Ali Mustapfa’s death was held in Sidon in southern Lebanon on Friday. The area was filled with banners glorifying the life and achievements of Mustafa, and calling on Palestinian factions to unite for the greater Palestinian cause.

Following the celebration, youth of the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp placed barriers at the entrances of the camp made out of Palestinian flags. As the sun set youth lit candles throughout the streets of the camp.

A symbolic march to the cemetery of martyrs in the camp was organized by the PFLP. Representatives of all factions within the camp and supporters of the PFLP gathered for the march.
