Russian PM cancels meeting with Olmert; Putin refuses to "even see him"

Israeli sources described outgoing Israeli occupation government prime minister Ehud Olmert's visit to Russia yesterday as a “failure.”

Though Olmert met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Putin refused to even meet with the Israeli leader, sources said.

The leaders discussed the Iranian nuclear program and Russian arms transfers to states and groups that are hostile to Israel.

But the Israeli prime minister failed to attain a firm pledge from Russia that it would halt weapons sales to Iran and Syria. Such an agreement was the Israeli leader’s main aim for the trip and the subsequent talks, Israeli press reported.
