22 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 14 in a Suicide Car Bomb Targeting Minister of Labor, According to October 23, 2008 News Reports

- Two people were killed, two more were injured from the same family, in Al-Kut as a result of a mortar round hitting their home.

- The 1920s Brigades announced downing a US unmanned surveillance plane in Al-Rutba, in Al-Anbar Province.

- One woman was killed, two civilians were injured by US fire in Ba'aqouba.

- Muhammed Abu Atra, commander of guards of Al-Diwaniya government buildings, died of his wounds he sustained in an attack on his Baghdad convoy yesterday.

- A civilian was killed, another was injured by police fire in Al-Kut.

-  14 people were injured by a bomb in Ba'aqouba.

- 11 people were killed, 22 were injured when the convoy of the minister of labor and social affairs, Mahmoud Al-Shaikh Radhi, was attacked by a car bomb, in Al-Tahrir Square in Baghdad today.

amsi.org reported the following news:

- 18 people were injured by a blast in a market in Ba'aqouba.

- 3 people were killed, including two policemen, in an attack on a police patrol in Baghdad between Al-Tahrir Square and Tayaran Square.

INA reported that the number of those killed in the suicide car bomb attack on the minister of labor's convoy reached 13 and the wounded were 22.

Mortar strike kills 2 civilians, wounds 2 in Wassit

WASSIT/Aswat al-Iraq:

At least two civilians were killed and two others wounded when a mortar round fell into their house in Wassit on Thursday, a security source said.

 “The victims from the same family were inside their home in al-Falahiya district, east Kut when a mortar struck the house,” a Wassit security house told Aswat al-Iraq.

“Police sealed off the accident area and file an urgent investigation,” the source added.
Kut, the capital city of Wassit, a border province with Iraq, lies 180 km south Iraq

Random fire kills, injures 2 civilians in Kut

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian was killed and another one was injured on Thursday by random police fire in central Kut, said a police source.

“Police randomly opened fire on grocers violating the law in the markets region in central Kut, killing a civilian and injuring another,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The body was sent to the morgue at al-Zahraa hospital in Kut, while the wounded was rushed to the same hospital for treatment,” he also said.

“The police opened investigation into the incident,” he explained.

Woman killed, 2 wounded by U.S. fire in Ba'aqouba

A woman was killed and another woman and a man were injured on Thursday by U.S. fire in central Ba'aqouba, a police source said.

“U.S. forces mistakenly opened fire on them in Ba'aqouba al-Jadida region in central Ba'aqouba,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Car bomb leaves 30 casualties in central Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least ten persons were killed and 20 others were injured on Thursday in a car bomb explosion in central Baghdad, a police source said.

“A car rigged with explosives went off targeting the motorcade of the labor and social affairs minister in al-Tahrir square in central Baghdad, killing 10 and injuring 20,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.

Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship.

It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen.

On September 6, 2008, news reports mentioned the killing of nine Iraqis who were arrested by Al-Muthanna Brigade of the Iraqi Army stationed in the city of Al-Falloujah. There corpses were found with bullets shot on their heads and chests. This incident is evidence that the sectarian-based Iraqi forces have been functioning also as death squads, which killed Iraqis for suspicion of belonging to resistance organizations, without any legal procedures or trials.

Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters."

Finally, on daily basis, US-led forces arrest scores of Iraqis in an attempt to pre-empt them from resistance. Tens of thousands of Iraqis are still there in US detention camps and in the prisons of the US-backed Iraqi government.
