Participants in Jerusalem conference call for uniting efforts to save Jerusalem [ 13/10/2008 - 12:04 PM ] DOHA, (PIC)-- The participants at the opening session of the sixth conference of Jerusalem held on Sunday in Doha urged the popular forces and the governments in the Arab and Islamic states to pool the efforts to save occupied Jerusalem and its holy places from the Zionist Judaization schemes. The speakers at the conference which was organized by Al-Quds international institution underlined that the Arab and Islamic nation still has the infrastructure and capability to confront the Israeli occupation and liberate Palestine and Jerusalem if it united its efforts and put its differences aside. Beshara Al-Merhej, the head of the session and a former Lebanese minister, stated that the current situation entails mobilizing energies and raising the awareness of the Arab and Islamic masses about the real battle and the importance of avoiding the side disputes and working on settling them under one roof. For his part, sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradawi, the head of Al-Quds institution and the international association of Muslim scholars, underscored that the nation of one and a half billion Muslims will not fail to liberate Jerusalem and Palestine, but he called for preventing the dangers threatening Jerusalem before they happen. Sheikh Qaradawi added that the nation has great demographic, economic and political potentials enabling it to impose its will and rout the Israeli occupation. Munir Shafiq, the general coordinator of the national Islamic conference, warned that the Palestinian cause is experiencing its most dangerous stages where serious concessions have been lately made on the right of return, land and other crucial issues. Father Attallah Hanna, the archbishop of the orthodox church of Jerusalem, said the Christian Palestinians are adherent to their Palestinian and Arab identity and defend Jerusalem and its holy shrines, highlighting that the Christians will liberate the holy city together with their fellow Muslims.
