Peres was visiting the university as part of a public relations tour. When the President approached Bahar to shake his hand, the student refused, stating QUOTE "I will not shake hands with a murderer of children." Bahar was referring to the Israeli military occupation of Palestinian land, which has cost the lives of one thousand and fifty Palestinian children since 2000, and the murder of Lebanese children in Qana. In the same time period, one hundred twenty three Israeli children have been killed by Palestinian fighters.
