Civilian killed, 3 wounded in Mosul attacks

Four persons were killed or wounded in two separate attacks in Mosul city, a police source said on Wednesday.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) went off in al-Karama neighborhood, eastern Mosul, killing a civilian and wounding two,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The device detonated automatically and did not target military or security vehicles,” the source explained.

“Meanwhile, another explosive charge targeted an Iraqi army vehicle in al-Nahrawan neighborhood, western Mosul, wounding a patrolman,” according to the same source.

U.S. soldier dies in central Iraq- army

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A U.S. serviceman died of non-combat related causes in central Iraq, the first U.S. casualty to be announced this month.

“A Multi-National Division – Center Soldier died of non-combat related causes Nov. 5,” read a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq.

“The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and official release by the Department of Defense,” the statement added.

The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,191.

A total of 14 troops died last month, while 25 soldiers died in September, including nine of non-combat related causes.

Car bomb leaves 13 casualties in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Thirteen persons were killed or wounded in a suicide car bombing attack in western Baghdad, a police source said on Wednesday.

“A car rigged with explosives, driven by a suicide bomber, detonated near a checkpoint on Baghdad International Airport road, western Baghdad, killing four individuals, including two policemen, and wounding nine others, including four police personnel,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

The source did not provide further details.

2 security elements killed in Mosul

Two security forces officers were killed on Wednesday in two armed attacks in eastern and western Mosul, a police source said.
“Unidentified gunmen killed one of the workers of the political prisoners establishment in al-Senaa neighborhood in eastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“A policeman was killed by armed men in al-Shefaa neighborhood in western Mosul,” he added.
“The bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department in Mosul,” he also said.

Senior police officer survives assassination attempt

The deputy chief of the Missan police on Wednesday survived an attempt on his life, while a policeman was killed and four more were wounded in a bomb blast in central Amara, a security source said.

“An explosive charge went off targeting the motorcade of Colonel Sadeq Abdul Aziem, killing a cop and injuring four,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq, noting that the deputy chief of police survived.
A security source had said earlier a policeman was killed and three more were wounded in a bomb explosion in central Amara.

Bomb kills cop, injures 3 in Amara

A policeman was killed and three more were wounded in a bomb explosion in central Amara, a security source said.
“An improvised explosive device went off near the police station in central Amara, killing a policeman and injuring three,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The body and the two wounded were sent to the Sadr public hospital in Amara,” he explained.

2 bodies found in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two bodies of a young man and a woman were found by police forces in southwest of Kirkuk, a police source said on Wednesday.
“The bodies were found on late Tuesday in Mezher al-Aasi village in Riyadh district, southwest of Kirkuk,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The corpses bore signs of gunshot wounds and were sent to the morgue,” he added, noting that an investigation was opened into it.
