8 Israeli Soldiers, 2 Palestinian Fighters, 3 Civilians Injured in Gaza Attacks

2 Qassam fighters, 10 IOF soldiers wounded in exchange of shelling

[ 29/11/2008 - 08:23 AM ]

KHAN YOUNIS, (PIC)--

Two members of the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas Movement, were wounded on Friday while confronting an Israeli occupation forces' raid east of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip.

Medical sources told the PIC reporter that the two were moderately injured in the clash in Farahin area east of Khan Younis.

Local sources said that Qassam fighters fired five mortar shells at the advancing troops who shelled the area and inflicted the casualties.

The sources said that the attack started when IOF tanks fired three shells at a group of resistance fighters in the area before an IOF special unit advanced into it. Fierce clashes erupted but the targeted group of fighters managed to escape unharmed.

In retaliation to the IOF attack, the armed wing fired three mortar shells at the Israeli military base in Nahal Oz east of Gaza city on Friday night while other mortars were fired at Zikim and Erez military sites north of Gaza.

The armed wing said that the attacks were in retaliation to the IOF violation of the calm agreement the latest being the Farahin raid. It warned the "Zionist enemy" of violating the calm anew or else the reprisal would be more violent.

The IOF command acknowledged the attack saying that ten of its soldiers were inured in the attack, three of them seriously.

Palestinian resistance shells Israeli military base, wounding 8 soldiers

Saturday November 29, 2008 07:53 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

After an Israeli invasion on Friday wounded three Palestinians, the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip fired two homemade shells at an Israeli military base, wounding officers and soldiers in their barracks.

According to Israeli sources, the shells hit a soldiers' barracks and an officers' quarters, wounding eight – two of them critically.

The head of an Israeli kibbutz near the base told the Israeli paper Ha'aretz, "I immediately called on all kibbutz members on the loudspeaker to enter the fortified areas. We then searched for the landings, but fortunately for us it did not happen at the kibbutz but at the base facing us. The army told us to remain near fortified rooms."

Palestinian resistance groups have long asserted their internationally-recognized right to resist military occupation.

The Israeli army has occupied all Palestinian land (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) since 1967, and has refused to fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Israeli occupation forces injure three Palestinians during invasion of southern Gaza

Friday November 28, 2008 20:24 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

Although early reports stated that one Palestinian had been killed during an Israeli occupation forces invasion on Friday, medical sources confirmed no deaths – although three Palestinians were seriously wounded.

Mu'awiya Hassanain, the head of emergency services in Gaza, said that three young men were wounded by Israeli occupation forces tank shells during an invasion of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military confirmed the invasion, stating that its troops were on a “routine patrol” along the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel when they saw what they said were Palestinian resistance fighters near the border. They then launched an invasion and fired tank shells at Palestinians near the border.

The Popular Resistance Committees, a Palestinian resistance group, confirmed that one of its fighters had escaped being killed in the attack. The identity of the three men who were injured is unknown, and no other resistance group has claimed that the other two men were members of any group.

The invasion is the second this week, at a time when Palestinian factions have been trying to re-negotiate a truce that had been in place for six months until Israel launched a series of wide-scale attacks over the previous two weeks. Israeli occupation forces had violated the truce on a weekly basis prior to the most recent attacks, while Palestinians in Gaza remained under a full siege, lacking power, food, medicine and fuel.
