20 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 5 Executed by Death Squads, 9 Found in Mass Grave, According to November 20, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net reported the following Tuesday news:

- US forces announced today that a mass grave of nine bodies was found in Ur, on November 17.

- Two US personnel carriers were destroyed in Salahuddin and Al-Anbar provinces, by Jihad and Change Brigades, with published videos.

- Iraqi Hamas fighters downed an unmanned US plane with a missile still attached to it.

- Ansar Al-Sunna fighters destroyed a US Hummer south of Baghdad.

- Former Iraqi Army fighters destroyed a US Hummer vehicle and rocketed Al-Bakr US airbase.

- Iraqis in Al-Anbar provinces went out in demonstrations protesting the proposed US-Iraqi security agreement.

5 unknown bodies found in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces on Thursday found five unidentified bodies in southwestern Ninewa, a police source said.
“The bodies of five people, including two women, were found by policemen in Tal Abta district in al-Hadar district, southwest of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The bodies bore signs of gunshot wounds to the different parts of the bodies,” he added.
“The corpses were found inside a civilian vehicle,” he highlighted, noting that the bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department.

Officer killed, soldier injured while defusing bomb in Diala

An Iraqi army officer was killed and a soldier was injured on Thursday while an attempt to defuse a bomb in Diala, a local official said.

“An Iraqi army officer was killed and a soldier was injured when a bomb exploded while trying to defuse it near al-Sa'adiya district garage in northeast of Diala,” Aamer Refa'at, member of the security committee of the Diala provincial council, told Aswat al-Iraq.

4 gunmen killed in clashes in Tikrit

Four gunmen on Wednesday were killed in clashes with local people to the east of Tikrit city, said a security source from Salah al-Din province.

“A number of gunmen attempted today to form a forged checkpoint at the highway near al-Naema village of Al-Dor suburb (20 km east of Tikrit),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“Residents of the area called the cops and then attacked the gunmen,” he said.
“Four gunmen were killed, a fifth one was wounded and then arrested, while one civilian was injured in the clashes,” he added.

“The armed men’s vehicle was set on fire, while their guns were seized, he noted.
Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

Suicide bomber injures 2 cops in Mosul

Two policemen were wounded on Wednesday in a suicide car bomb explosion in eastern Mosul, a police source said.

“A suicide bomber blew up a car crammed with explosives targeting a police vehicle patrol in Kokegli region in eastern Mosul, injuring two policemen, who rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

He did not give more details.

Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.

Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship.

It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen.

On September 6, 2008, news reports mentioned the killing of nine Iraqis who were arrested by Al-Muthanna Brigade of the Iraqi Army stationed in the city of Al-Falloujah. There corpses were found with bullets shot on their heads and chests. This incident is evidence that the sectarian-based Iraqi forces have been functioning also as death squads, which killed Iraqis for suspicion of belonging to resistance organizations, without any legal procedures or trials.

Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters."

Finally, on daily basis, US-led forces arrest scores of Iraqis in an attempt to pre-empt them from resistance. Tens of thousands of Iraqis are still there in US detention camps and in the prisons of the US-backed Iraqi government.
