9 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, According to May 8, 2008 News Reports Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.
Yaqen.net reported the following news: - A US Hummer was destroyed in Baghdad. - A body was found and a policeman was injured in Mosul. ================================= 7 killed, 19 injured in Sadr City clashes Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Thursday , 08 /05 /2008 Time 6:07:13 Baghdad, May 8, (VOI) – The main hospitals in the troubled eastern Baghdad district of Sadr City received 7 corpses and 19 wounded people in casualties from clashes between gunmen and Iraqi security forces during the past 24 hours, a medical source said on Thursday. "The Imam Ali Hospital received 4 corpses and 12 wounded individuals while al-Sadr Hospital received 3 corpses and 7 wounded as a result of clashes that have been flaring up in Sadr City since March 2008," the source, who declined to have his name revealed, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). Al-Sadr and Imam Ali hospitals admit people killed and wounded in the clashes occurring nearly on a daily basis. Sadr City, a stronghold of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militias, has been witnessing armed clashes since Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced last month the commencement of a security operation codenamed Saulat al-Forsan (Knights' Assault) in the port city of Basra, Iraq's second largest province and an oil-hub, 590 km south of Baghdad, which he said targeted "outlaws." Hundreds of Sadr supporters were killed or wounded in intense fighting, which still continues. SH/SR Sahwa leader, 3 cops wounded in Dalouiya Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq Thursday , 08 /05 /2008 Time 9:32:46 Dalouiya, May 8, (VOI) - The leader of the Dalouiya Awakening Council (Sahwa) was injured along with three policemen in a suicide bombing attack near his motorcade with the police chief in central Dalouiya, a police source said on Thursday. “A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body targeting the motorcade of Colonel Mohamed Khaled Abdul Hamid, the police chief, who was accompanied by Mulla Nazem al-Juburi, the leader of the Sahwa council in Dalouiya, slightly injuring the Sahwa leader and three policemen,” Colonel Mohammed Jasem al-Juburi, from the local police, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). Al-Juburi, the imam of al-Khulafaa mosque, was a senior leader of the al-Qaeda group for the past four years, but he differed with them and announced war on the group. He formed the Awakening Council in Dalouiya to fight them. Al-Juburi has survived four attempts on his life. Dalouiya, Salah al-Din province, lies 90 km north of Baghdad.
