US Soldier, 47 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, According to May 6, 2008 News Reports Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.
Yaqen.net reported the following news: - 2 Iraqis were killed, 25 were injured by a car bomb explosion in front of a restaurant in down town Tikrit. - 2 people were killed, 11 were injured during fighting in Sadr City. - A US military vehicle was damaged in an attack on a convoy by Al-Ishreen Brigades, north of Baghdada. - 10 Iraqi Army soldiers were killed, 13 were injured in an attack on a checkpoint, west of Ba'aqouba. This news was also reported by the Iraq News Agency (INA). ================================= Two roadside bombings leave 5 casualties in Ninewa Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Ninewa, May 6, (VOI) - Two roadside bombings left three individuals killed and two others wounded in separate neighborhoods of Ninewa, a security source said. “Two gunmen were killed while trying to plant a roadside bomb on the main street of Shura district, south Mosul,” Brigadier Khalid Abdel Sattar, spokesman for Ninewa security operations, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). Meanwhile, a Mosul police source, who requested anonymity, said “a roadside bomb went off against an Iraqi army patrol in al-Tanak neighborhood, west Mosul, leaving an army serviceman dead and two others wounded.” Mosul, the capital city of Mosul province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad AM/SR 2 U.S. soldiers killed, injured in Ninewa Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Baghdad, May 6, (VOI) - One U.S. soldier was killed and another one was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near their vehicle in the northern Iraqi province of Ninewa, the U.S. army in Iraq said on Tuesday. “A Multi-National Division – North soldier was killed from wounds sustained in an insurgent attack against the soldier’s patrol in Ninewa Province May 6,” according to a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). “One soldier was also wounded in the attack and was taken to a Coalition force hospital for treatment,” it added. The death, reaching seven this month, brings the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of military operations in March 2003 to 4072 . Of this number, 52 were killed in April, thus becoming the deadliest month for U.S. forces since September, during which 65 were killed. SH/SR Car bomb explosion leaves 27 casualties in Salah al-Din Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Salah al-Din, May 6, (VOI) - A car bomb explosion left 27 casualties in Salah al-Din on Tuesday, a security source said. “Two civilians were killed and 25 others wounded when a car bomb parking near al-Khayarat restaurant blew up, setting five car in the vicinity of the area ablaze,” Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed al-Ubaidi, from the Joint Coordination Center (JCC), told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). The source pointed out “the explosion detonated at the peak time for the restaurant, which accounted for the high number of casualties.” Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad AM/SR 2 dead, 11 injured in Sadr city clashes in 24 hours Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Baghdad, May 6, (VOI) – Hospitals in the troubled eastern Baghdad district of Sadr City received 2 corpses and 11 wounded people in casualties from clashes between gunmen and Iraqi security forces during the past 24 hours, a medic said on Tuesday. "The Imam Ali Hospital received two corpses and 7 wounded individuals while al-Sadr Hospital received 4 wounded as a result of clashes that have been flaring up in Sadr City since March 2008," the source, who declined to have his name revealed, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). Al-Sadr and Imam Ali hospitals receive people killed and wounded in the clashes occurring nearly on a daily basis. Sadr City, a stronghold of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militias, has been witnessing armed clashes since Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced last month the commencement of a security operation codenamed Saulat al-Forsan (Knights' Assault) in the port city of Basra, Iraq's second largest province and an oil-hub, 590 km south of Baghdad, which he said targeted "outlaws." Hundreds of Sadr supporters were killed or wounded in intense fighting, which still continues. "Security forces destroyed nine civilian vehicles rigged with explosives and two others carrying outlaw gunmen in military raids on al-Shoala area," Maj. General Qassem Atta, the spokesman for the Fardh al-Qanoon (law imposing) security plan, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). "An amount of arms and ammunition were seized in the same area," Atta added. AE 4 killed, 1 wounded in separate attacks in Mosul Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Ninewa, May 6, (VOI) – Four people, including two gunmen, were killed and one civilian wounded in two separate attacks in the city of Mosul, an official security source said on Tuesday. "A group of armed men opened fire at an Iraqi police patrol on Monday evening, prompting the policemen to fire back, killing two gunmen in al-Nour neighborhood, eastern Mosul," Brig. Khaled Abdul-Sattar, the official spokesman for the Ninewa security operations command, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). "A vehicle belonging to the gunmen was seized. There was a 9 mm. gun inside it," said Abdul-Sattar, not giving more details. Meanwhile, the same source said another armed group attacked a police patrol in al-Mansour neighborhood, southern Mosul, killing two policemen and wounding one civilian near the attack site. AE 11 gunmen killed in Baghdad in 24 hours Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /05 /2008 Time 10:13:51 Baghdad, May 6, (VOI) – Security forces killed 11 gunmen, arrested 170 wanted and suspects, and defused two bobby-trapped vehicles in military operations during the last 24 hours, according to Baghdad's Fadh al-Qanoon (Law Imposing) security plan, said the plan's official spokesperson. Major General Qassim Atta told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) in a phone interview that within al-Karkh (western side of Baghdad) operations sector, security forces killed five gunmen, arrested 16 wanted and 48 suspects, and seized a number of guns and ammunitions at al-Kadhimiya city, northern Baghdad. "Security forces killed two gunmen, arrested 70 suspects, and defused two bobby-trapped vehicles and eight roadside bombs at al-Mansoor neighborhood, western Baghdad," Atta said. "Security forces killed three gunmen, released one abducted person, arrested 13 wanted and two suspects, defused 11 roadside bombs, and seized quantities of guns and ammunitions, in addition to confiscating 11 old vehicles that belong to the former regime, all at the areas to the east and west of al-Rasheed, southern Baghdad," he added. Concerning al-Rusaffa (eastern side of Baghdad) operations sector, Atta mentioned "Security forces arrested eight wanted and suspects, defused one roadside bomb, and seized quantities of guns and ammunitions at al-Adhamiya neighborhood, northern Baghdad." "Forces also defused two roadside bombs, and seized quantities of guns and explosives at Sadr city, eastern Baghdad, and arrested one suspect at Baghdad al-Jididah neighborhood, southern Baghdad," he said. Regarding Baghdad's suburb, Atta noted that one gunman was killed, 12 wanted were arrested, and a vehicle that carried 23 roadside bombs and a quantity of TNT explosive material was seized at al-Mahmoudiya suburb, south of Baghdad. In a dispatch posted at 7pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi government troops raided the al-Hakim Hospital in the ash-Shu‘lah area of Baghdad. Yaqen reported Dr. Yasin ‘Abd al-Hasan ar-Rukkabi, the Director of al-Hakim Hospital, as saying that the government forces ordered wounded and sick patients taken out of the facility and prevented the hospital from admitting any more injured persons for treatment. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses reported that Shi‘i mosques controlled by the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia were calling on local residents to continue to resist the American and Iraqi regime onslaught on their neighborhood. A source in the Sadr Office in ash-Shu‘lah said that US forces together with their Iraqi regime allies attacked the district from four directions on Monday morning – striking from al-Ghazaliyah, Abu Ghurayb, al-Kazimiyah, and at-Taji – in an assault focused on the 11th, 12th, and 13th districts in the area which remains blockaded by US and regime troops. Fierce fighting was reported raging in the area between the Jaysh al-Mahdi and the occupation troops. Earlier on Monday, the director of ash-Shu‘lah Hospital declared that there were large numbers of dead and wounded in the district but no specific numbers were available. Meanwhile, US troops raided the Sadr Office Center in Baghdad’s al-Karakh district. Residents of the area were reporting heavy casualties in the fighting between the Americans and the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia. The US is pressing its offensive against the Jaysh al-Mahdi and its parent Sadr Movement with the apparent aim of preparing for an eventual attack on Iran. A source in the Interior Ministry said that during Sunday night there were intermittent attacks on Iraqi and American army patrols in various neighborhoods of northern and western Baghdad as well. Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry as saying that fighting raged in several neighborhoods of the city, leaving one person dead and seven more wounded in the continuing American offensive against the Jaysh al-Mahdi which is believed to be preparation for an eventual US attack on Iran. In a dispatch posted at 4:33pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a group of armed men attacked the home of a commander in the US-backed “Awakening” tribal police in the village of al-Makhisah in the Abu Sayda area to the northeast of al-Miqdadiyah, 185km northeast of Baghdad. Yaqen reported a source in the al-Miqdadiyah police as saying that an armed battle took place between the attackers and the tribal policemen in which two of the police were killed and five others were wounded. Two of the attackers were killed in the clash as well, the source said. After the arrival of government reinforcements, the attackers slipped away from the area. Mandali. Judge assassinated. In a dispatch posted at 11:55am Baghdad time Monday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men assassinated a judge in the city of Mandali near the Iranian border northeast of Baghdad. Yaqen reported that attackers armed with machine guns shot and killed Judge Mahir Hambib al-Hamidi in the Mandali area. No further details were available. At-Ta’mim Province. Kirkuk. Bomb targets government police patrol in Kirkuk Monday. In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:31pm Monday afternoon Beijing time (1:31pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of Iraqi government police in Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on Monday. Wasit Province. Al-Kut. Iraqi regime security forces raid Sadr Office in al-Kut early Monday. In a dispatch posted at 5:45pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime security forces raided the headquarters of the anti-occupation Sadr Movement in al-Kut, 180km southeast of Baghdad.
