Cannes Festival Filmmaker, Anne Marie Jacir, Denied Entry by Israeli Occupation Government to Shoot Final Scenes in the West Bank Israelis deny official Cannes festival filmmaker entry to Palestine [ 02/05/2008 - 09:03 PM ] LONDON, (PIC)-- Officially selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, filmmaker Anne Marie Jacir has been denied entry to Palestine at the Jordanian border, in order to shoot the final scene of her film in the West Bank, according to a press release by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. She was on her way to the world premiere of her new film, ‘Salt of the Sea’ which took five years to make. Before being denied entry she was repeatedly questioned and held for over six hours. Two agents from the Israeli Ministry of Interior escorted Anne Marie from the terminal and placed her on a bus for Jordan. Whilst Israel complains that it is being singled out for special treatment in the academic boycott, it denies outstanding filmmakers like Anne Marie entry to Palestine with complete impunity. Anne Marie has not been allowed into Palestine for nine months, which meant that some of the final scenes of her film could not be shot on the West Bank and had to be filmed at an alternate location with the cooperation of the French in Marseille.
