US Soldiers, 15 Iraqis 
		Killed in War Attacks, According to Initial May 28, 2008 News Reports

		Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. 
		The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised 
		that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's 
		reported. 
		It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed 
		that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer 
		hiding themselves. They are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters 
		and policemen, which is an opportunity for US forces command to sever 
		relations with these fighters.

		- Gunmen killed an Iraqi soldier 
		in front of his house in Amarah.
		
		- One person was killed, 
		another was injured by a bomb explosion south of Ba'aqouba.
		
		- Two people were killed, 
		a third was injured from the same family by a roadside bomb on the road 
		between Qurrah Tabah and Kafri dictrict, in the Diala Province.
		
		- 7 gunmen were killed, 
		three policemen were injured in Al-Salam village, during fighting near 
		Beiji.
		
		- An Iraqi contractor 
		working with US forces was killed in Al-Haqlaniya.

		US soldier was killed, three were injured in a 
		roadside bomb in Al-'Adhamiya, south of Baghdad.
		
		The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported that seven 
		civilians were killed, 38 were injured in the yesterday's blast (Only
		four were reported killed yesterday).

		Two casualties as bomb explodes in Diala

		Ba’aquba, May 28, (VOI)- 
		At least a civilian was killed and one more 
		wounded on Wednesday in a roadside bomb explosion in Diala province, 
		central Iraq, a police source said.
		“An explosive charge detonated, this morning, 
		in al-Khwelis village near Ba’aqouba, killing a civilian and wounding 
		another,” the source, who asked to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq- 
		Voices of Iraq- (VOI).
		The source gave no further details.
		Ba’aqouba, capital city of Diala, is 57 km 
		northeast of Baghdad.

		Two civilians were killed and a third was 
		wounded on Wednesday as a roadside bomb exploded in Diala province, 
		central Iraq, a local official source said.
		“An explosive charge went off, this morning, 
		near a civilian car on the main road connecting Qara Taba district to 
		Kefri, killing two civilians and wounding one more,” Sirwan Shukur, Qara 
		Taba district mayor, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).
		“The victims were from one family,” Shukur 
		added.
		Qara Taba district, Diala province, lies 200 km northeast of Baghdad.

		Senior police officer survives 
		attempted assassination in Kirkuk

		Deputy Chief of Kirkuk Emergency Police Forces 
		survived unharmed an attempt on his life in the northern Iraqi city of 
		Kirkuk on Wednesday morning, a police source said. 
		
		“An explosive charge detonated, this morning, near the motorcade of 
		Lieutenant Colonel Fuad Shewani in central Kirkuk, wounding an escort,” 
		the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- 
		(VOI).
		The source added that Shewani survived the 
		attack unharmed.
		Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

		In a dispatch posted at 6:30pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces from the al-Muthanna 
		Brigade raided a school in Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad, and 
		arrested two teachers.

		Municipal official survives assassination attempt in Baghdad.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 11:25am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that the Chairman of the Municipal Council of the 
		az-Za‘faraniyah area of Baghdad survived an assassination attempt when a 
		bomb exploded under his car.
		 
		Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that an adhesive bomb 
		planted under the vehicle of Nabil al-A‘raji, the Chairman of the 
		az-Za‘faraniyah council exploded and slightly wounded the official.  
		The source said that the bomb went off just as al-A‘raji stepped out of 
		the car and entered his house.  The car was totally destroyed in 
		the blast.

		Four al-Qa‘idah commanders killed in battle west of Bayji Monday 
		afternoon.
		 
		In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 9:14am Tuesday morning 
		Beijing time (5:14am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that 
		four high-ranking leaders of al-Qa‘idah in Iraq, one of them with the 
		rank of a “Minister” in the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq” had been 
		killed in Iraqi regime operations near Bayji, 200km north of Baghdad.
		 
		Xinhua reported Colonel Hasan Ahmad of the police command in the 
		province as saying that regime forces raided the village of as-Salam to 
		the west of Bayji on Monday afternoon in search of Dr. Sabbar Mahrus al-Qaysi, 
		the Director of Tikrit General Hospital and two of his assistants who 
		were kidnapped two weeks ago.
		 
		The raiding party clashed with al-Qa‘idah gunmen and in the battle 
		killed four commanders in the organization, one of them Muhammad Dar‘ 
		Fayyad, a “Minister” in the “Islamic State of Iraq” which was declared 
		by al-Qa‘idah several years ago.  The source said that the other 
		al-Qa ‘idah leaders killed in the raid were Mahir Rahim ‘Ali, Majid 
		Hamid Thalaj, and Nazim Sharif Mazban.  Two policemen were also 
		slightly wounded in the raid.
		 
		Colonel Ahmad as saying that the fighting in the village lasted until 
		Monday evening and that in the end, the raiding party did not find the 
		missing doctors.

		Suspected al-Qa‘idah gunmen attack checkpoint in Hibhib area Tuesday 
		morning.
		 
		In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:29pm Tuesday afternoon 
		Beijing time (12:29pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that 
		gunmen believed to belong to al-Qa‘idah attacked a checkpoint manned by 
		Iraqi army troops in the Hibhib area to the north of Ba‘qubah, 65km 
		northeast of Baghdad, on Tuesday morning.

		Bomb targets police patrol in al-Mawsil after noon Tuesday, as al-Qa‘idah 
		announces revenge attacks.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 6:03pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a police patrol in eastern 
		al-Mawsil.
		 
		Yaqen reported a source in the Ninwa Province security forces as saying 
		that a bomb went off by a police patrol in the ad-Darkazaliyah area of 
		eastern al-Mawsil after noon on Tuesday, wounding six people.  The 
		blast also damaged a patrol vehicle.  The casualties were taken to 
		al-Mawsil General Hospital for treatment.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 11:18pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat 
		al-Islam reported that al-Qa‘idah in Iraq had posted a video 
		announcement on its website pledging to carry out revenge attacks in 
		retaliation for the US and Iraqi regime offensive against al-Qa‘idah in 
		al-Mawsil launched on 10 May.
		 
		Woman shot dead after leaving hospital in al-Mawsil.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that gunmen unleashed a hail of gunfire at a woman 
		in the ash-Shifa’ area of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, killing 
		her on the spot.
		 
		Yaqen reported a source in the provincial police as saying that the 
		woman, who was described as being 45 years of age, was gunned down just 
		after she left ash-Shifa’ Hospital.

		In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that armed men shot and killed a policeman as he 
		walked through the bustling Bab at-Tub area of central al-Mawsil, 420km 
		northwest of Baghdad.
		 
		Tall ‘Afar.
		 
		Four killed, 36 wounded in car bomb explosion in Tall ‘Afar.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 7:01pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that a car bomb had exploded in the area of al-Qal‘ah 
		(Citadel) Square in the city of Tall ‘Afar, 55km west of al-Mawsil in 
		northwestern Iraq.
		 
		Yaqen reported Dr. Salih al-Qadu, the Director of Tall ‘Afar Hospital, 
		as saying that the blast had claimed four lives and left 36 people 
		wounded.

		US announces arrest of Iranian-backed commander of anti-occupation 
		fighters in as-Suwayrah.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 3:56pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that the US military announced that it had captured 
		a commander of a special detachment of anti-occupation fighters 
		operating in as-Suwayrah, 50km southeast of Baghdad.
		 
		Yaqen reported an American communiqué as saying that the man was an 
		expert in the manufacture of anti-tank bombs in the area who was also 
		responsible for coordinating and directing attacks at US forces.  
		The US statement added that he was thought to have sent his personnel to 
		Iran to receive training for the struggle against the US occupation.
		 
		The Americans said that they also arrested a second individual at the 
		same location, and that the arrests were made after the US troops had 
		come under small arms fire.  The communiqué stated that no 
		casualties had resulted from the attack.

		Regime announces arrest of 19 more members of anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi 
		militia in al-Basrah.
		 
		In a dispatch posted at 10:10pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Yaqen 
		News Agency reported that Iraqi government forces arrested 19 
		individuals it said were members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi 
		militia in continued raids, searches, and arrests in the southern city 
		of al-Basrah.
		 
		The raids are a continuation of the US-led offensive waged against the 
		Jaysh al-Mahdi in March, April, and May that was brought to a halt by an 
		Iranian-brokered cease-fire announced on 10 May.  The US is 
		apparently interested in wiping out the Jaysh al-Mahdi in order to 
		prepare for an eventual American attack on Iran.
