Israeli Occupation Government Decides to Demolish 3,000 Palestinian Homes in the West Bank UN report: IOA decides to demolish 3,000 Palestinian homes in the West Bank [ 28/05/2008 - 07:05 AM ] RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The UN Human Affairs Coordination Office has affirmed that thousands of Palestinian individuals would be exposed to possible forcible ejection from their homes after the IOA decided to demolish 3,000 homes in the West Bank. "As of now, there are 3,000 Israeli demolition orders against Palestinian homes in the West Bank that could be carried out immediately and without prior notice," the UN office said in a report it issued on Tuesday over the matter. According to the report, the targeted Palestinian homes are located in Area C that covers 60% of the total West Bank land, and falls under direct Israeli control. It pointed out that inhabitants of this area are denied building permits from the IOA that seldom grants such permits for Palestinians. The report also disclosed that 94% of Palestinian applications for building permits were rejected by the IOA. Around 124 Palestinian homes in the West Bank were flattened to the ground within the first three months of this year compared to 107 homes in the year 2007 for the same period, the report, furthermore, noted. The demolition of those homes rendered 435 Palestinian citizens, including 135 children homeless, the UN report highlighted. For its part, the Israeli Peace Now Movement warned that the IOA rejection of Palestinian applications for building permits could be considered as an enhancement to the Israeli "forced transfer" policy against the Palestinians. According to a report issued by the Movement, a total of 2900 demolition orders were issued by the IOA against random Israeli settlement units in the West Bank, but, the report asserted, only 7% of those settlement units were removed.
