path of peace negotiations

Palestinian Presidency: Israel puts
obstacles in the path of peace negotiations
Ramallah, May 24, 2008 (RNA) –
The Palestinian Presidency warned the Israeli
occupation government on Saturday from continuing to put obstacles in
the path of the Palestinian–Israeli running negotiations.
Palestinian Presidency Spokesman Nabil Abu-Rudaina said that the latest
UN's report on increasing the number of the Israeli roadblocks across
the West Bank indicates that Israel is not serious in its negotiations.
He added that such an increase of Israeli roadblocks means that the
Israeli occupation government curbs put more impediments in the
way of peace negotiations.
Abu Rudaina added that the Israeli occupation government does not
perform its obligations before the international community.
He called on the US administrations to shoulder responsibility and to
put pressure on the Israeli occupation government to abide by its
commitments.
The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the
Palestinian Territories reported that Israeli troops erected more than
600 new checkpoints across the West Bank and prevents the movement of
Palestinians.
The office reported that the total number of roadblocks was increased
from 566 on September 4, 2007 to 607 on April 29, 2008 including the
building of 144 new roadblocks and the removal of 103 closures in the
same period.
Two days ago, the International Labour Office (ILO) issued a report on
the situation of workers of the occupied Arab territories which revealed
that only one out of three persons of working age (15 years and above)
living in the occupied Arab territories was employed for all or part of
the time, with unemployment hovering above 20 percent.
"Over 80 percent of the population in Gaza is now dependent on food aid
as a result of the severe economic siege imposing a closing of all
crossings save essential humanitarian supplies," ILO added.
