Security forces killed a gunman and arrested 36 wanted
persons on the second day of a major offensive in Ninewa, a military
source said. “Forces from Iraqi army 3rd division killed a gunman in al-Kasak
district during clashes with gunmen”, an Iraqi army source, who

Baghdad, May11, (VOI)-
Iraqi security forces killed eight gunmen and
arrested 23 wanted persons during in Baghdad and its suburbs during the
past 24 hours, a military spokesman said.
“Iraqi security forces conducted operations according to Baghdad
security plan in Baghdad eastern and western sectors”, Brig. Gen Qassem
Atta, military spokesman for Baghdad security plan, said in a statement
received by Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq (VOI).

Woman, child, 2 gunmen killed in Mosul – U.S. army

Baghdad, May 11, (VOI) –
The U.S. army in Iraq on Sunday said that its
forces killed a woman and child who were in the same car as a group of
gunmen in Mosul city.
The forces also killed two of the gunmen according to a release issued
by the U.S. army.
"Coalition forces conducted an operation targeting associates of an
al-Qaeda in Iraq foreign terrorist facilitator in northern Iraq on
Saturday," said the release that was received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices
of Iraq – (VOI).
"Coalition forces fired three warning shots, but the driver refused to
stop and one man made threatening movements from inside the vehicle.
Coalition forces responded to the perceived threat and engaged the
vehicle, killing two armed men inside," it added.
"A woman and child in the vehicle were also killed in the engagement,"
it noted.

Sadr City hospitals receive 40
casualties in 24 hours

Hospitals in the eastern Baghdad district of
Sadr City have admitted 15 bodies and 25 others wounded
as a result of clashes between gunmen and Iraqi security forces,
including one death and three wounded just on Sunday morning, a medic
said.
"The Imam Ali hospital in Sadr City received 15 corpses and 22 others
wounded, including one body and three wounded on Sunday morning, while
al-Shahid al-Sadr hospital, also in Sadr City, received only three
wounded people," a medic told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

U.S. serviceman dies in western Ramadi

Arbil, May 11, (VOI) –
A U.S. soldier died when his vehicle overturned
in western Ramadi city, Anbar province, a media advisor in the U.S. army
said on Sunday.
"The U.S. serviceman died when his vehicle overturned at 6:30 p.m. on
Saturday in al-Baghdadi neighborhood," Abdul Lateef Rayan told Aswat
al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
Ramadi, the capital city of Anbar province, lies 110 km west of the
Iraqi capital Baghdad.
The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the
U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,075.
Of this number, 10 have been killed thus far since the beginning of May
2008. A total of 52 soldiers were killed in April 2008, thus becoming
the deadliest month for U.S. forces since September, during which 65
were killed.

2 unknown bodies found in Kirkuk

Local police forces in Kirkuk found two
unidentified bodies on the main road linking the city to Arbil, an
informed source said on Sunday.
"On Sunday morning, a force from Kirkuk police discovered two unknown
and decomposed bodies on the main road linking Arbil to Kirkuk (10 km
north of Rihamawa area in northern Kirkuk)," the source, who requested
anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq, Voices of Iraq, (VOI).

5 gunmen killed, 12 arrested in 2
operation in Ninewa

Ninewa, May 11, (VOI) –
Five gunmen were killed and 12 others were
captured during two separate security operations in Ninewa province,
security sources said on Sunday.
"Today, army personnel killed five gunmen and arrested seven others
during clashes that broke out in the area between Mahalabiya and Talafar
districts," the mayor of Talafar district, Brigadier Najm Abdullah, told
Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
During the same operation, army forces seized a large amount of weapons,
the mayor explained.
Meanwhile, a source from the Iraqi army who requested anonymity told VOI
that an army force "launched a military operation today in the Tamuz 17
neighborhood in western Mosul, during which five suspects were
arrested."
Investigation is currently underway, the source added.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of the
Iraqi capital Baghdad.

12 killed or wounded in Iraq until

Six persons were killed, six others wounded, and
12 arrested during violent operations that took place from 9:00 p.m. on
Saturday until 2:00 p.m. today in different parts of Iraq, according to
official security sources.
An under-secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Fadel Mahmoud, survived
an attempt on his life when an improvised explosive device (IED)
targeted his convoy in downtown Baghdad's al-Salihiya neighborhood,
wounding six civilians, an Iraqi police source from Baghdad told Aswat
al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
Meanwhile, the mayor of Talafar district, Najm Abdullah, told VOI on
Sunday that five gunmen were killed and 12 others were arrested during
two separate security operation in Ninewa province.
In the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, a local police source said that security
personnel had found two unidentified bodies on the road linking the city
to Kirkuk.
A media advisor in the U.S. army, Abdul Lateef Rayan, told VOI that a
U.S. serviceman was killed when his vehicle overturned in western Ramadi
city, Anbar province, on Saturday.
