Baghdad, May 10, (VOI)-

The U.S. army said Saturday a service member died of injuries sustained from a “non-combat” incident.
“A Multi-National Division – Center soldier died of non-combat related injuries May 9,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003 to 4074. Of this number, 9 soldiers have been so far killed in May.

4 U.S. soldiers wounded in Diala

Diala, May 10, (VOI) –

Four U.S. soldiers obtained minor wounds in a roadside bomb attack in Diala province, said a release issued by U.S. army in Iraq.
"One of four U.S. soldiers, who were on a pedestrian patrol on Saturday in Diala province, tripped a roadside bomb that exploded, causing minor wounds among the soldiers," said the release that was received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).
"Soldiers were admitted to a medical center," it added.
The release noted that two of the U.S. soldiers recovered, and rejoined the service.
Baaquba, capital city of Diala province, is 57 km southeast of Baghdad.

Sadr City clashes leave 20 dead, 115 wounded over 24 hours

Baghdad, may 10, (VOI)-

At least 20 people were killed and 115 more wounded as a result of the uninterrupted clashes between U.S.-Iraqi forces and Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in the Baghdad’s eastern slum of Sadr City, a medical source said on Saturday.

“Imam Ali Hospital in Sadr City received 15 bodies and admitted 54 wounded persons during the last 24 hours, while the city’s other hospital (al-Sadr) received five bodies and hospitalized 61 injured people,” the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

Over the last six weeks, Sadr City, the stronghold of Jaysh Mahdi fighters in Baghdad, has been a scene of continued clashes with the Iraqi government forces backed by U.S. troops after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki launched a large-scale military operation to hunt down what he officially described as “outlaws” in areas where the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr’s militiamen were active.

Sahwa council kill 13 al-Qaeda fighters in Salah al-Din

US-recruited Sahwa council backed by US troops on Friday killed 13 gunmen, a source in the anti-Qaeda council said.

US-assisted Sahwa councils, have been set up to fight al-Qaeda network fighters across Iraqi areas, are groups led  by tribal chieftains and Earlier,  aTikrit police said security forces killed al-Qaeda operative identified as Abu Qutada in western Samarra, but did not provide further details.
Tikrrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din, lies 175 km north Baghdad.
