Gunmen kill civilian, set house ablaze in Diala

    Diala, Mar 15, (VOI) –

A civilian man was killed and another's house set on fire by unidentified gunmen in one of the villages of Ba'aqouba on Saturday, a security source in Diala province said. "A group of gunmen opened a volley of fire on a civilian in the village of al-Huwayder, killing him instantly," the source, who asked not to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Meanwhile, the same source said, another group of armed men "detonated the house of another civilian man in al-Amin neighborhood, Ba'aqouba district." Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AE/SR

U.S. army kills 2 gunmen in Samarra

    Baghdad, March 15, (VOI) -

U.S. forces killed two al-Qaeda militants in Samarra, Salah al-Din province, the U.S. military said on Saturday. U.S. army forces conducted an operation in eastern Samarra along Himreen mountains range targeting al-Qaeda network launching operations in Diala province, read a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

1 civilian killed, 3 policemen wounded in Wassit clashes

    Wassit, Mar 15, (VOI) –

One civilian man was killed and three policemen wounded in random crossfire between the Iraqi police and gunmen in western Kut on Saturday, a police source said. "A civilian man of the name Hussein Ouda was killed in the area of al-Izza, western Kut, in random thick crossfire in the city where clashes erupted between gunmen and policemen," the source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Earlier on Saturday a local police source said at least three civilians, including a woman, were injured when two mortars fell on a residential area downtown Kut, 180 km, southeast of Baghdad. "Two 120 mm mortars fell on Hawrah neighborhood, central Kut, wounding three civilians, including a woman, and damaging some houses," the source told VOI. Kut, capital of the predominantly Shiite province of Wassit, had witnessed on Tuesday fierce clashes between police forces and gunmen, leaving 11 people killed and 40 others wounded. The bloody confrontations were followed by different incidents, the recent of which was the clashes that erupted on Friday between policemen and unidentified gunmen in western Kut. AE

An Iraqi interpreter was killed and six others, including two U.S. soldiers, wounded when a suicide bomber detonated himself near the Rubaia'a checkpoint on the borders with neighboring Syria, the U.S. army in Iraq revealed on Saturday.

Mosul, Mar 14, (VOI)-

Police and army forces killed three gunmen wearing explosive belts in Talafar, the official spokesman for the Ninewa operations command said on Friday.

“Joint police and army forces killed three gunmen wearing explosive belts this afternoon in Talafar,” Brig. Khaled Abdul Sattar Saadon tld Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI). “The forces seized the gunmen’s vehicle and three Kalashnikovs found in their possession,” he added. Talafar is 60 km west of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SH

 

Two corpses found in Baghdad

    Baghdad, Mar 14, (VOI)-

Iraqi police patrols found on Friday two unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, an interior ministry source said. "Police patrols found two unknown corpses dumped in various parts of Baghdad," the source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"One body was found in al-Mansour neighborhood in western Baghdad, while the second body was found in Palestine street, eastern Baghdad,” the source added. "The bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SH
