Betraying French Resistance to NAZI

Sarkozy in Bethlehem: Palestinian state would guarantee
Israeli security
Date: 24 / 06 / 2008 Time: 13:36
Bethlehem - Ma'an –
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Tuesday that the only
way to "guarantee Israel's security" is to allow the creation of a
'modern, democratic, and viable Palestinian state.
Sarkozy also said that France would demand an "end to colonization"
in Jerusalem and the West Bank as a whole, and said that Israel's
checkpoints and its massive Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall would not
guarantee Israel's security forever. He added that Israel's security
is "non-negotiable."
He also called on Palestinians to separate themselves from violence,
saying that France is comfortable talking to Abbas because he is "a
man of peace."
Sarkozy was speaking at a joint press conference with Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Bethlehem. Sarkozy
and Abbas met to discuss France's support for a proposed 21 million
dollar industrial zone in the city.
Abbas, who spoke first, said that Palestinian demands for the end of
Israeli occupation are based on international law. Abbas also vowed
to continue negotiations with Israel until a peaceful resolution is
realized.
Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, traveled to Bethlehem
after the French leader met with Israeli right-wing opposition
leader Benjamin Netanyahu. Following the press conference, Sarkozy
and his wife visited the Church of the Nativity,
spending a little over three hours in
occupied Palestine at the end of a three day visit to Israel.
Bethlehem, an island of Palestinian Authority control in the West
Bank, is hemmed in on two sides by the illegal Israeli Land-Grab,
Apartheid Wall and illegal Israeli settlements, and on the other two
sides by Area C, which is designated to be fully Israeli controlled
under the Oslo interim agreement.
As Sarkozy rode from the Presidential Palace in Bethlehem to the
Church of the Nativity, at least two Israeli military jeeps and an
armored personnel carrier blocked one road leading to Jerusalem.
Palestinian Authority security forces shut down other streets less
than 50 meters away.
The French interior minister went separately to the West Bank city
of Ramallah to lay a wreath on the tomb of the late Palestinian
President Yasser Arafat (Thus,
Sarkozy like Zionist Blair did not honor the symbol of Palestinian
struggle for freedom and independence).
As Sarkozy was about to board his flight at Ben Gurion International
Airport near Tel Aviv, an Israeli border policeman died after
shooting himself with his own weapon, Israeli media reported
(actually committing suicide as
aljazeera tv reported).
Sarkozy and his wife, who were not endangered by the gunshots, were
then reportedly rushed on to the plane by dark-suited security
guards. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Shimon
Peres were also taken to their cars.

JERUSALEM, June 24 (Xinhua) --
An officer of Israel Border Guard shot himself dead on Tuesday
during a farewell ceremony held in honor of French President Nicolas
Sarkozy in Ben-Gurion International Airport.
Moshe Fintzy, spokesman of Israel Border Police, refused to
disclose any details of the incident, but confirmed to Xinhua that
there was no assassination attempt on the French leader.
The incident is under investigation, Fintzy added.
Police spokesman Shlomi Sagi was quoted by the website of
local daily Jerusalem Post as saying that the policeman, who was
part of the honorary guard, was killed in an apparent suicide.
Israel Radio said the soldier was stationed 100 meters to 200
meters away from the plane.
Soon after the accident, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's
security personnel withdrew their handguns and rushed Olmert and
Israeli President Shimon Peres to bullet-proof cars, while Sarkozy
and his wife were rushed to the French president's plane.
After the circumstances of the incident became clear, the
bodyguards allowed Peres and Olmert to board the plane and bid
Sarkozy farewell.
The Hamas Movement has declared its rejection of French president
Nicolas Sarkozy's description of Palestinian resistance as
"terrorism" during a press conference jointly held with PA chief
Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem on Tuesday.
Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said in a press
statement that Sarkozy's description of resistance as "terrorism",
which also included labeling Hamas as "terrorist", was "unacceptable
and unfair" to the Palestinian people.
The spokesman expressed surprise at denying the Palestinian
people's right to resist occupation while the
French people under the leadership of Charles de
Gaulle exercised this right while under Nazi occupation,
"unless, of course, President Sarkozy thinks the French people were
wrong to resist the occupation."
Sarkozy's declared understanding of Israeli occupation's security
needs and his appreciation of Israeli democracy without
understanding the Palestinian right to resistance and self defense
might give occupation the justification to continue in its crimes
and massacres against the Palestinian people, Barhoum charged,
adding that such an understanding would also deceive the world
public opinion about the reality of this occupation's aggression and
criminality.
