21 Iraqis Killed, Attacks on US Forces with Casualties, According to June 22, 2008 Initial News Reports Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported. Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship. It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen (which is an opportunity for US forces command to sever relations with these fighters). Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters." amsi.org reported that a policeman was killed, another was injured in an attack by gunmen in Mosul. Yaqen.net reported that Al-Rashideen Army fighters rocketed US military base in Samarra. - 3 workers of Baghdad municipality were killed, a fourth was injured in a gunmen attack. - Al-Muslimoon Army fighters destroyed a US Hummer in Al-Anbar Province, with US casualties. =============== Ba'aqouba blast casualties up to 43 Casualties from Sunday's earlier suicide blast in central Ba'aqouba
rose to 13 deaths,
including an officer in the rank of captain, and 30 wounded, a police
source in Diala province said. Earlier in the day the same source said more than 30 people were killed or wounded in an initial count of casualties from the bombing attack in Ba'aqouba. Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. Because of its proximity to two major sources of water, Diala's main
industry is agriculture, primarily dates grown in large Date Palm
groves. It is also recognized as the orange capital of the Middle East. Kirkuk blast leaves 5 killed, wounded Five persons, including four women,
were killed or wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED)
targeted their civilian vehicle in Kirkuk, the second explosion to rock
the city today, a senior police source said on Sunday. Earlier today, Qadir told VOI that an explosive device went off near
a center for the disabled and the Iraqi Red Crescent Association in
southwestern Kirkuk city, causing no casualties or damage. 16 people killed, 32 wounded, 22 arrested in Iraq in 24 hours
At least 16 people were killed, 32 were wounded, and 22 were arrested by security forces throughout Iraq in 24 hours, security sources said. In Diala, a security source said that casualties from the suicide attack, which was conducted on Sunday in Ba'aqouba by a female bomber wearing an explosive belt, increased to 13 dead people, including a police captain, and 30 injuries. Earlier on Sunday, the same source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of
Iraq – (VOI) that more than 30 people were dead or wounded, in a
preliminary indication of casualties caused by the female bomber attack
that took place near the local administration's building, central
Ba'aqouba. In Missan, Iraqi Ministry of Defense's official spokesperson said
that security forces conducting Operation Bashaer al-Salam (Promise of
Peace) on Sunday arrested 11 wanted persons, in operations throughout
Amara city's center. He described the arrested people as "dangerous." In Kirkuk, Brigadier Sarhad Qadir, director of suburbs and districts police, told VOI that three people, including two women, on Sunday were killed, and two other women were wounded in a roadside bomb attack that targeted their civilian car. This attack with a roadside bomb was the second in Kirkuk on Sunday, as earlier today, a roadside bomb detonated, according to Brigadier Qadir, near the disabled people directorate and the Iraqi Red Crescent association, southwestern the city, without causing any casualties or damages. In Basra, a source from the police on Sunday said that police forces arrested five people wanted for "terrorist and criminal" cases, while quantities of ammunition were seized in raid operations conducted by the forces throughout Basra, during the last 24 hours. In Karbala, General Raid Shaker Jawdat, the province's operations and
police commander, told VOI that three gunmen on Sunday were arrested,
when they were trying to cross one of the city's trenches, western
Karbala, and documents were seized with them that indicated plots to
target the province's religious institutions. ==========================
