23 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, According to Initial July 7, 2008 News Reports
Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported. Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship. It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen (which is an opportunity for US forces command to sever relations with these fighters). Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters." ============================ Yaqen.net reported that four US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed, six others were injured in a car bomb explosion near Samarra. - Two policemen were killed in a car bomb attack north of Babil. - A child was killed, another was injured in a land mine explosion west of Basrah. - Dhi Qar director of animal natural resources was assassinate. - A US-recruited Sahwa fighter was killed north of Hillah. ============================

those killings. "The vehicle's description was distributed to all checkpoints, and one of the assassins, with the vehicle, was arrested by the Iraqi police 2nd contingent, at al-Amn Intersection, eastern Mosul, after he dropped the other gunmen at a different place," he said. He did not mention further details, but noted, "Interrogations are currently underway with the arrested gunman to know his colleagues." Al-Hamdani also mentioned that in a separate incident, armed men
"assassinated another civilian, in Shaikh Fat'hi neighborhood, western
Mosul, and stole the victim's vehicle (bus)." "Police forces seized the victim's vehicle, southwestern Mosul, after
the gunmen left it there," he noted. Gunmen kill Islamic party official in Talafar Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Monday , 07 /07 /2008 Time 10:29:41 MOSUL, July 7 (VOI) - Unidentified gunmen on Monday killed the official of the Islamic party in Talafar, a security source said. "Unidentified gunmen attacked the house of Hajj Abdul Bari Sherzi, the official of the Islamic party, in al-Houma village in Talafar, west of Mosul, and opened fire on him, killing him instantly," the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) on condition of anonymity. He did not add further details. The Iraqi Islamic party is a Sunni political party in Iraq. The party's current general secretary is Tareq al-Hashemi (one of Iraq's two vice-presidents), who succeeded Dr. Mohsen Abdel Hamid in July 2004. The party was founded in 1960 and evolved out of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. It was banned from 1961 until the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It is one of the three main components that form the Sunni Accordance Front (IAF), the third largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament with 44 out of a total 275 seats. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. The original city of Mosul stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient biblical city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has now grown to encompass substantial areas on both banks, with five bridges linking the two sides.
